  • Responsibilities

    Job Description

    • Safety First! Ensures personal safety and the safety of fellow team members.
    • Assists supervisors and managers in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
    • Wears appropriate PPE which may include fall protection, respiratory protection, hearing protection, foot, hand, head and eye protection.
    • Uses proper lifting and ergo techniques.
    • Reads work orders or receives oral instructions to determine work assignments, material or equipment needs.
    • Follows detailed job specific instructions to make sure castings are produced in the most efficient manner and to meet customer specifications.
    • Conducts daily inspection of equipment.
    • Demonstrates ability to charge the furnace, take readings and monitor furnace condition and record.
    • Operates yard crane to accurately weigh charge metals into the weigh hopper.
    • Conducts quality testing of the iron to determine proper chemistry.
    • Plots and adjusts chemistry of iron; tests iron temperature of every charge and records.
    • Hauls iron, slags off molten iron, rods and dumps the furnace.
    • Relines, overhauls, patching, rebuilding of ladles, covers, and spouts on furnaces.
    • Preps for the next production run.
    • Restocks alloys when they become low.
    • Maintains cleanliness of the production area and metal storage yard.

    Education and/or Experience

    High school diploma/GED preferred. Must be at least 18 years of age.

    Language Skills

    Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

    Mathematical Skills

    Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

    Reasoning Ability

    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
