** COMPLETION OF A CERTIFIED NURSING ASSISTANT COURSE AND PA STATE CERTIFICATION REQUIRED **
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Unit Manager, Supervisor or delegate in charge of the team/unit, the Rehab Assistant II / CNA assists patients with activities of daily living, provides basic nursing care to non-acutely ill patients, and assists in maintenance of a safe and clean environment.
The Rehab Assistant II /CNA must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her unit - —adolescent through geriatric. The Certified Nurse Aide must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span to provide the care needed as described in the Nursing Department's policies and procedures.

EDUCATION:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant course and have PA state certification required
WORK EXPERIENCE:
Experience as a Nursing Assistant preferred
SPECIAL EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
Must be sixteen years of age or older.
Must be CPR certified or willing to become CPR certified.
Good written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills required for effective interpersonal relationships with patients, visitors or other hospital personnel.
Must maintain confidentiality of patient information.
Must successfully pass Certified Rehabilitation Nursing Assistant test within orientation period.
Required to float between units and locations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Medium Work: duties require exerting 25 to 50 lbs. of force occasionally (approx 10-33% of shift), and/or 10-25 lbs. of force frequently (approx 33-66% of the time), and/or greater than negligible amount up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, and move objects.
Position involves bending, reaching, stooping and lifting (occasionally in strained position) throughout shift.
Position requires ability to transport self throughout facility, including satellite units (ASRH only), frequently, while pushing a wheelchair.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES OF JOB:
Provides morning and evening care, which may include showers, oral hygiene, combing hair, back care, nail care, dressing patient, straightening room and labeling patient’s personal care items, as needed
Provides assistance with ambulation and mobility as well as positioning, lifting, turning, and transferring patients. At JHIRM, employees will follow Safe Handing & Movement of Patients Program
Makes patient care rounds at least hourly. Reports (and when appropriate, records) observations of patient behavior and uses adequate judgement to notify the RN of any changes in clinical or functional status
In conjunction with the nurse (RN/LPN) answers patient call lights promptly and whenever possible anticipates patient needs
Provides for exceptional customer service, utilizing interpersonal communication skills and behavior management skills, including positive reinforcement.
