Job Description

MJW is looking for a Collateral Underwriter to join our team.  This position is responsible for all functions related to analyzing and evaluating appraisal reports prepared by external appraisers on residential properties to meet lending standards & program guidelines.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Review & underwrite collateral to ensure the appraisal meets investor and program criteria.
• Review findings, address appraisal comparable selection, review for marketability and valuation acceptance, and confirm appraisal is completed to appraisal standards.
• Conduct condo project review per agency guidelines.
• Review appraisal against title, flood cert, purchase agreement, etc. for accuracy & consistency.
• Request and review appraisal revisions, desk reviews, and field reviews.
• Rebut 3rd party valuations as necessary.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities: 

• Proficiency with Encompass required.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite required.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
• Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
• Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization’s systems.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree preferred; High school diploma or equivalent required
• Minimum of 5 years mortgage underwriting experience; 2 years of collateral underwriting experience required
• DE required; SARS preferred
