    Job Description

By joining our team, you will work on impactful and compelling projects that advance scientific understanding of GEOINT related phenomenology and that rely on GEOINT to inform decisions in areas like defense, national security, and disaster response! We are looking for a Data Specialist/ Database Specialist to join our team in Springfield, VA. The right candidate will be someone that has prior experience in data management, data governance, or data stewardship roles - preferably in a large enterprise environment who has a strong understanding of data management principals, data governance frameworks, and data quality concepts

     

     

    Responsibilities:

    • Provide NGA with data standards guidance and support
    • Apply data management principles, follow governance guidelines, and manage data holdings to improve NGA’s data
    • Enhance the query speed of existing databases
    • Enhance the data import/export speed in existing databases
    • Use Excel spreadsheets to be able to inter-relate and effectively present geospatial data standards and metrics
    • Build complex formulas within Excel to quickly extract data from large spreadsheets
    • Conduct research and help with the preparation of analytical/technical reports, publications, graphics and maintain hard/soft copy files
    • Create and maintain databases, summary data, spreadsheets, graphic documents
    • Maintain websites like SharePoint and Intelink
    • Adapt existing software applications, tools and data to meet new requirements
    • Build and document custom solutions (tools, processes, etc.) that adhere to enterprise architecture standards to automate or assist analytic endeavors
    • Modify, merge and or conflate geospatial data using GIS systems and extensions {ex: ESRI)

       

       

       

      Required Qualifications:

       

    • Must have NGA Domain Experience, Imagery exploitation.
    • TS/SCI clearance (with CI Poly)
    • Strong communication skills using verbal, written, and visual methods
    • Bachelor’s Degree and 5 years of relevant professional work experience OR a Master’s Degree with 3 years of relevant professional work experience
    • substitutions are allowed for volunteer experience, internships, professional certifications, military experience, different degree types, and a variety of other things…

     

      Required Experience:

       

    • A minimum of 4 years of experience in database management
    • Demonstrated understanding of GIS, data schemas, and the geo-referencing of information
    • Knowledge of extraction and metadata specifications
    • Knowledge of Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) best practices and performance tuning/optimization techniques
    • Knowledge of enterprise geodatabases, such as Spatial Database Engines (SDEs).
    • Knowledge of tools such as the ArcGIS Suite, ArcGIS for Server, and ArcGIS extensions
    • Excel, Access, SQL, and Oracle for the storage, organization, and maintenance of spatial data.
    • Strong preference for candidates with ESRI Dashboard.
    • Desired Experience:

    • Knowledge of scripting languages, such as R or Python.
    • Demonstrated understanding of cartographic principles.
    • Understanding of ArcGIS Online and Portal for managing data.
    • Knowledge of Tableau.
    • GEOINT Professional Certification - Fundamentals (F)
    • GEOINT Professional Certification - Geospatial Data Management (GDM)
