Machining Process Engineer

Salary: $90,000 - $120,000 (based on experience)

Emerge is recruiting for a Process Engineer job in Winsted, CT with an aerospace manufacturer known for innovation. This is a direct-hire opportunity to play a critical role in optimizing CNC Machining processes.
As a Process Engineer, you will ensure compliance with process specifications, oversee metallurgical characteristics, and engineer high-yield, cost-effective products that meet customer quality standards. Success in this role requires strong collaboration, hands-on engagement, and excellent communication skills. This position reports to the Engineering Manager.
Key Responsibilities for the Machining Process Engineer job in Winsted, CT include:
- Troubleshoot fixturing, clamping, program, parameter, and tooling issues to resolve production problems.
- Design and implement mistake-proof fixturing to improve yields and reduce scrap.
- Conduct time studies to define and balance operator standard work, generate standard work charts, and compare performance to cost model estimates.
- Utilize SPC charts and process capability methods to improve first-time yields.
- Plan and develop processes for new product introductions (NPI), including tooling procurement, routings, and bill of materials.
- Analyze shop floor performance using data tools (e.g., Power BI) to identify and close performance gaps, including scrap and rework costs.
- Apply APQP tools to minimize scrap risks and defects.
- Assist in cost estimation for new and repeat production jobs.
- Lead and support cost-saving initiatives.
- Serve as a technical liaison with customers, suppliers, and other Howmet plants regarding processes, specifications, and customer requirements.
- Research, analyze, and justify equipment procurement.
- Actively participate in continuous improvement events.
- Provide technical support to shop floor personnel.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanica, Industrial, etc.) is required.
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in a CNC Machining manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency with engineering concepts, standard work principles, and tools like Mini-Tab.
- Familiarity with machining including Mills, GD & T, AS9100
- Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing knowledge preferred.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
