    General Statement of Duties

    The Branch Manager is responsible for the day-to-day supervision and efficient operation of all aspects of a designated DHCLS library service outlet including staff, facilities, customer service, and collections. The Branch Manager is expected to be a team leader with the ability to exercise considerable independent judgment and effectively manage and motivate staff to deliver impactful customer-centric library services for the community in concert with the DHCLS Strategic Plan.

    Supervision Received/Given

    Works under the direct supervision and guidance of the Assistant Director of Public Services. Supervises part-time and full-time Library Assistants and custodian. Serves as a member of the Management Team.

    Job Duties

    Responsible for all customer functions of the library, including circulation, reference, readers advisory, and technology assistance services.

    Communicates expectations, sets standards, and coaches personnel on customer service, management, and communication skills.

    Assigns, supervises, and evaluates the work of assigned library staff, including goal-setting and continuous improvement.

    Creates and maintains staff schedules and work plans.

    Interprets and applies library policies and procedures to specific situations and assists in the development and improvement of library policies and procedures as necessary.

    Works to ensure appropriate and well-balanced collections in collaboration with the Assistant Director of Public Services.

    Identifies needs for facility improvements and prepares related budget/funding requests.

    Works collaboratively with other members of the Management Team.

    Monitors and reports on any deficiencies to the maintenance and security of the building & grounds.

    Compiles statistics and completes reports (internal and external) as assigned.

    May be required to work some evenings and weekends, and attend professional conferences/meetings.

    Works with security services and law enforcement as necessary.

    Performs other reasonable duties as assigned.

    Education and Qualifications

    High school diploma or equivalent. (Bachelor's degree preferred.)

    Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible library work experience or customer service management.

    Must have been previously employed in a lead worker or supervisory role.

    Valid driver’s license and normal risk insurability preferred.

    Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, train, and supervise staff.

    Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

    Able to perform all subordinate job duties as delineated in Library Assistant job description.

    Ability to learn and/or operate library technology systems, software, and other job-related equipment.

    Ability to work independently, make decisions in a fast-paced environment, and exercise sound judgment.

    Knowledge of current trends and new techniques in public libraries preferred.
