    Emerge is recruiting qualified candidates for a Maintenance Engineering and Facilities Manager Job in Hampton, VA for our client, a busy manufacturer of technical products. The Maintenance Manager will oversee a team of qualified Engineering leaders, skilled union maintenance mechanics, electricians, automation engineers and contractors in a large multifaceted industrial complex. This role applies leadership and planning in a complex environment of over 2500 pieces of equipment in a 24/7 environment. We are seeking candidates with an engineering background and experience in technical manufacturing such as casting or foundries. Our client offers a competitive salary of $125,000 to $154,000 plus a generous bonus plan (12%), and excellent benefits that start day one. A full relocation package is available.

    Responsibilities for the Maintenance Engineering and Facilities Manager job in Hampton, VA include:

    • Leadership: Manage Maintenance and Facilities departments, emphasizing safety, efficiency, and asset utilization.
    • Maintenance Oversight: Minimize unplanned equipment downtime and maximize reliability using Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and other Lean methods. Develop preventative maintenance schedules and manage critical parts inventory.
    • Project Management: Establish goals for maintenance and facilities projects, including design, installation, and modification of equipment. Lead the execution of projects, ensuring timelines and budgets are met.
    • Budget Management: Oversee maintenance and repair budgets, and handle capital expenditure requests), ensuring alignment with business priorities.
    • Continuous Improvement: Implement Lean initiatives to improve safety, production efficiency, reduce downtime, and enhance equipment reliability.
    • Contractor Management: Hire, supervise, and evaluate external contractors to ensure quality work. Ensure seamless integration of external services with internal processes.
    • Coordination & Communication: Work cross-functionally with other departments, ensuring interventions align with business needs and minimize disruptions. Report progress and updates to key stakeholders regularly.
    • Talent Development: Coach and mentor maintenance staff to build technical skills and foster professional growth. Identify opportunities for continuous learning and development within the team.
    • Troubleshooting & Urgency: Troubleshoot equipment issues swiftly, maintaining a sense of urgency to minimize downtime and keep production on track.
    • Community Involvement: Represent the company at community planning boards and contribute to external relations related to plant infrastructure.

    Job Responsibilities

    • Lead by example that safety is a way of life.
    • Lead/Manage the Maintenance and Facilities Engineering departments.
    • Drive asset utilization. Shorten cycles, minimize downtime, and keep equipment running. Utilizes 8 pillars of TPM.
    • Minimize unplanned equipment downtime and maximize equipment reliability by employing TPM and other Lean initiatives.
    • Ensure Facilities Engineering metrics are well-known, and track progress toward achieving department objectives.
    • Establish project goals and lead the group effort toward successfully completing those projects.
    • Manage the maintenance and repair budget.
    • Contribute to cross-functional continuous improvement initiatives for safety, on-time delivery, production efficiency, and scrap reduction.
    • Develop the capabilities of those in the department through teaching, coaching, establishing high standards, and ensuring accountability.
    • Exhibit and promote an attitude on the plant floor that leads to an engaged and energized workforce.
    • Advise, assist and review all matters involving capital and major expenses.
    • Review and edit all requests for assets (RFA) and author those pertaining to the facility.
    • Represent company at community planning boards.
    • Daily help manage parts and expedite parts as necessary.
    • Troubleshoot equipment – sense of urgency.
    • Daily review of PM’s equipment down with team.

     

    Qualifications:

    • Must have a bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited institution.
    • Must have five (5) or more years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing plant, with 3+ years in a management role.
    • Our ideal candidates will have experience in casting, vacuum casting, forging or foundries.
    • Must be a champion of Lean Manufacturing, TPM, and continuous improvement methods. Six Sigma Green Belt certification is a plus!
    • Project management skills.
    • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), which requires U.S. person status; ITAR defines U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e., "Green Card Holder"), Political Asylee, or Refugee. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States; verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire; visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
