The Maintenance II position ensures the operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines. This role involves following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer’s instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting malfunctions; and performing various maintenance tasks while upholding the Ohio Gratings values.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure the operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines.
- Follow diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer’s instructions, and engineering specifications.
- Troubleshoot malfunctions and locate sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation, listening for problems, and using precision measuring and testing instruments.
- Remove defective parts by dismantling devices, using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools, and examining the form and texture of parts.
- Determine changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts and using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.
- Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments by using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges.
- Control downtime by informing production workers of routine preventive maintenance techniques and monitoring compliance.
- Fabricate repair parts by using machine shop instrumentation and equipment.
- Conserve maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
- Prepare mechanical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
- Maintain technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing technical publications, and establishing personal networks.
- Maintain continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Visually inspect and test machinery and equipment, listen for unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunctions, and discuss machine operation with production employees and supervisors.
- Dismantle defective machines and equipment and install new or repaired parts.
- Lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, and other machinery parts.
- Install and repair electrical apparatus, such as transformers and wiring, and electrical and electronic components of machinery and equipment.
- Install machine control systems and repair automated machinery and equipment.
- Lay out, assemble, and install new manufacturing equipment.
- Perform and keep records of preventive maintenance.
- Use the company’s ERP system, EPICOR, to properly transact work product steps and account for production time.
- Follow all safety rules and guidelines and attend required safety training.
- Perform other duties assigned by supervisor or manager.
- Engage in cross-training in different areas within the organization to gain a deeper understanding of the Ohio Gratings product line and advance your career. This may include learning new skills if instructed by management.
- Work with hand tools, welders, work from high lifts, confined spaces, and work with various oils and solvents.
Education, Work Experience, and Proficiencies:
- High school degree or GED required.
- 5 to 10 years of experience preferred with multidiscipline in mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical power (480V), and machine control systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical power systems.
- Advanced blueprint reading, wiring schematic, and drawing interpretation for the above systems.
- Proficiency in using dial calipers, tape measures, and other measuring instruments.
- Ability to apply arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and their applications to solve maintenance issues.
- Knowledgeable in metal fabrication equipment, welders, cranes, lift trucks, and PLC/CNC.
Physical Demands:
- The physical demands include the ability to take stairs, work around constantly moving machinery, and exposure to weather elements.
- The role involves repetitive movement tasks, which require the employee to stand, walk, stoop, bend, reach, grasp, push, and pull grating material of various sizes and weights for long periods of time.
- Must regularly lift or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 75 pounds, using proper lifting techniques, help from another employee, or other available resources such as lifting or moving equipment.
Work Environment:
- The work environment requires the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Exposure to noise, dust, heat, and cold on a regular basis.
- Exposure to machine and tool hazards requiring care and attention to safety rules and standards.
