    Job Description

    Position Overview:

    The Manager of Student Support Services at KIPP Kansas City will be responsible for coordinating and managing student support systems and programs that promote the academic, social, and emotional well-being of all students. This includes overseeing special education services, English language learner (ELL) support, mental health and counseling programs, as well as interventions for students with diverse needs. The Manager will work closely with school leadership and staff to ensure that all students have access to the necessary resources to thrive academically and socially.

    Key Responsibilities:
    Student Support Services Leadership:

    • Oversee the implementation and coordination of special education, 504 plans, and ELL services to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
    • Manage the school’s Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) framework, ensuring that all students receive appropriate interventions and support.
    • Collaborate with teachers, school leaders, and families to develop individualized plans and interventions that meet the unique needs of students.
    • Ensure appropriate documentation and progress monitoring of student interventions, special education services, and accommodations.
    • Serve as the primary contact for families regarding student support services, including facilitating IEP meetings and 504 plan reviews.

    Mental Health & Counseling Programs:

    • Lead the development and management of mental health and counseling programs, including partnering with external providers and in-house staff to address students’ social and emotional needs.
    • Support school-wide initiatives that promote positive mental health and well-being, including anti-bullying campaigns, trauma-informed practices, and wellness programs.
    • Provide leadership and oversight of school counselors, social workers, and behavioral specialists, ensuring they are aligned with KIPP KC’s goals and values.

    Data Analysis & Compliance:

    • Analyze data from various assessments, behavior reports, and attendance records to identify trends and areas for improvement in student support services.
    • Ensure that student support plans are effectively implemented and monitor progress toward desired outcomes.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all student support services and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws, including IDEA, Section 504, and Title III.

    Collaboration & Professional Development:

    • Collaborate with school leadership, teachers, and instructional coaches to provide professional development on effective intervention strategies, special education compliance, and social-emotional learning.
    • Build strong relationships with external service providers, community organizations, and families to enhance the overall support network for students.
    • Act as an advocate for students, ensuring that their needs are met and their voices are heard in decisions that affect their educational journey.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Education, Special Education, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field preferred.

    • 3-5 years of experience in a student support or related role, with a strong understanding of special education laws, ELL services, and social-emotional learning frameworks.

    • Proven track record of working with students with diverse learning and behavioral needs in a K-12 school setting.

    • Strong leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple programs and services simultaneously.

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a strong commitment to building positive relationships with students, families, and staff.

    • Knowledge of data analysis and progress monitoring tools to assess the effectiveness of student support interventions.

    Work Environment

    • Reports to work Monday-Friday and some weekends.

    • A typical school or office environment with frequent interruptions.

    Travel Requirements:

    • Ability to travel to work location.
