    Job Title: Senior Level Hydrogeologist/Water Resources Engineer/Water Resources Planner

    Job Type: Full-Time, Exempt, Salaried

    Salary Range: $95,000 - $150,000 per year depending upon education, experience, skill set and location.

    Reports to: California Groundwater Practice Lead

    Location: Flexible/hybrid work schedule available reporting to office in either Santa Barbara or Morro Bay.

    We are seeking a skilled project manager with experience in California water supply issues to help manage a thriving and growing base of groundwater projects.     Our Managing Hydrogeologists use their technical expertise to perform groundwater basin analysis, develop and implement groundwater sustainability plans, design and construct high-capacity production wells for municipal supply and industrial clients, and oversee aquifer storage and recovery projects as well as collector well systems. They work with diverse teams to tackle complex groundwater challenges, ensuring environmental compliance and operational efficiency.     In this role you will:

    • Manage projects focused on implementing long-term sustainability measures and management actions for groundwater resources.
    • Evaluate the long-term implications of various groundwater policies, projects, and management actions.
    • Develop and implement monitoring well networks and associated monitoring and reporting.
    • Design and construct high-capacity municipal production wells.
    • Prepare, review, and update technical specifications and assist clients in monitoring well drilling and production well drilling programs.
    • Design and construct injection wells and aquifer storage and recovery wells as part of client’s groundwater management strategies.
    • Work with GSI’s expert groundwater modeling team to develop modeling scenarios designed to assist with clients’ groundwater resources management decisions.
    • Collaborate with environmental scientists, planners, hazardous waste technicians, engineers, experts in law or business, or other specialists to address groundwater issues and problems.
    • Generate comprehensive technical reports and proposals.
    • Provide review and oversight of project work and reports prepared by junior and mid-level environmental staff.
    • Develop project budgets and scopes.
    • Manage budget, oversee performance, manage invoicing and collections, and control schedule on multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Facilitate contract review process.
    • Develop and maintain client relationships.
    • Identify new clients.
    • Attend and present at professional conferences as assigned.
    • Mentor junior and mid-career staff to develop skills in fieldwork, data interpretation and project management.

    Work Environment and Physical Demands

    This job is conducted largely in a professional office environment and requires the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and copiers.

    Fieldwork activities may involve lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, bending, stooping, and walking over uneven terrain.

    Travel to project sites, client meetings, and regulatory agencies as needed. Travel frequency will vary depending on project locations and requirements. Project areas are generally local, or within an approximately a two-hour drive and may, on occasion, require an overnight stay. Must have a current and valid driver's license and clean driving record. Reasonable accommodation will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential job functions.

    Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations

    • California PG (preferably CHG) or California PE in civil engineering with a water resources specialty.
    • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

    Required Education and Experience

    Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. Typical ways to obtain the required knowledge and abilities include:

    • BS degree in geology, water resource engineering, natural resources planning, hydrogeology, or a closely related field.
    • 10 or more years of water resources planning, water supply development, and/or groundwater experience, primarily in California, with established relationships and client network.
    • Proven track record of managing complex projects in the areas of water supply development, water resources planning, aquifer/basin studies, and groundwater management
    • Understanding of the water resources sector in California, including market, competition, and clients.
    • Experience preparing work plans and technical reports as well as reviewing and interpreting data.
    • Experience with and a solid understanding of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA).

    Valued Education and Experience

    • MS degree in hydrogeology or geology; or MS degree in civil engineering, water resources engineering, or planning, environmental engineering.
    • General understanding of groundwater modeling process and applications.
    • Extensive central and southern California experience and water resources network.
