Spirit Maine's manufacturing facility has been a leading solutions provider of high temperature materials and composites for more than 50 years, serving the Department of Defense and NASA. The focus in Maine is on multidirectional reinforced Carbon/Carbon (C/C) and Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs) that enable high-temperature components such as: thermal protection systems, re-entry vehicle nose tips as well as rocket motor throats and nozzles.
Our materials are being used on ground-breaking space initiatives such as the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle and the heat shield for NASA's Mars 2020 mission, important missile programs, airfoils in commercial and military jet engines, and as lightweight armor for U.S. military ground vehicles.
Your role: Spirit Maine is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer with a drive for success to add to their Engineering team! This role is responsible for support of current production systems to improve safety, quality, reliability, cost, and cycle time. In this position, you will support processes and equipment in the manufacturing of carbon/carbon composites. These processes involve high pressure, high temperature equipment, including piping, valves, cooling systems & process automation controls.
** Job Responsibilities:**
- Design, specify, and develop new equipment for future production systems
- Perform root cause analysis for failure investigations and other data analysis tasks, make data-driven decisions to drive continuous improvement
- Work closely with Production and Maintenance teams to troubleshoot and improve equipment and processes using Lean/Six Sigma tools and MRL standards
- Employ Engineering tools such as BOM refinement, Design Reviews, PFMEAs, IQ/OQ, Value Stream Maps, GD&T, etc.
- Provide technical support for 7x24 manufacturing facility in assigned areas of responsibility
- Research, organize and author Engineering documents such as ECOs, manufacturing procedures and manual, initial production travelers
- Support non-conformance program and implement preventive actions
- Write periodic reports or oral presentations to management and customers on specific projects
- Ensure that health and safety policies are followed
- Apply quality standards to ensure compliance with certification requirements in plant applications
** What we need from you:**
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or closely related discipline
- 3+ years of experience in manufacturing
- Knowledge of process equipment operation principals, methods, and process capability
- Demonstrated skills in technical problem solving and project coordination
- ****Strong work ethic
- Excellent attention to detail
- MS Office experience
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Comfortable working hands-on in a production environment when needed
** Preferred but not required :**
- Experience with industrial tools and equipment
- Familiarity with Lean manufacturing principles
- Mechanical Aptitude
- Experience with GD&T, and engineering drawing approval standards
- Experience with various forms of industrial process equipment such as pressure vessels, pumps, fluid systems, ovens, cranes, lifts, robotics, etc.
- Experience in aerospace/high-temperature composites, textiles or industrial engineering systems would distinguish the candidate
- Experience in thermal processing
