SUMMARY of ENTRY LEVEL TRIM POSITION

Performs end trimming operations on pipe coming off mill to meet specifications. Leads efforts to improve workstation practices, including training, fill-ins, PMs and troubleshooting.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Trim finished pipe to specification, monitoring for quality and length control.
• Set up trimmer as needed for various pipe sizes.
• Monitor coating of pipe and contact supervisor with any problems.
• Help mill operator and assistant mill operator on changeover.
• Basic housekeeping in general work area.
• Shares best practices across shifts
• Work with and perform all other duties assigned by supervisor, and/or Plant Manager.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

• Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, percent and to draw interpret bar graphs.
• Aptitude to calculate and use the following instruments – Scale in 1/8”, 1/16”, 1/32” and 1/64” increments – 12” to 72” long; Protractor Head, Diameter Tape – 100’s increments, Micrometers, Diameter Tape – 1/64” increments, 6” Vernier Caliper, 50’ Tapes, Ring Gauges, Squares, Levels, Line Levels, Various Tape Measures, Conversion Charts (Decimal to Fraction, Fraction to Decimal), Tri-Square, String Line, Feeler Gauges, Overhead Scale, Dial Indicators, Calipers

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

Regularly use Safety Glasses, Gloves, Ear Plugs and Steel-toed Boots. Additional PPE such as fall protection, respirators, safety belts, welding gloves and welding helmet, etc. as required.
