About Your Role:
Youth Mentors are responsible for developing structured and positive relationships with young people that empower them to succeed in everyday life. Services are primarily delivered in a community setting, to youth with identified behavioral and/or mental health concerns placed in ODHS foster homes. Youth mentoring is client driven and provided during times identified as most relevant to the consumer (including nights, early mornings, and occasional weekends). Youth mentors will use a combination of modalities including Motivational Interviewing and Collaborative Problem Solving when working with consumers to identify and accomplish specific goals identified by the consumer. This position works under the direct supervision of the Lead Skills Trainer/Youth Mentor. Pay range for this position is $17.30 to $18.26 per hour.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Provide direct, youth mentoring services to consumers, primarily in a community setting
Work as a service team member for consumer with frequent communication with other team members including incident reporting
Respond to referrals for new consumers within 24-hour timeline
Provide indirect services for consumers (contacting caseworkers or service team members, documentation, travel time)
Provide a minimum of 25 billable service hours per week with at least 12 hours being direct
Regular and frequent driving to meet consumer needs; including consumer transportation
Identifying appropriate location and timing of youth mentoring with consumers (including unconventional hours such as late nights, early mornings, and/or on occasional weekends)
Timely completion of service plans, case notes, and reports (includes daily, weekly, and monthly reporting)
Other duties as assigned or necessary to support the program and/or company
Education, Certifications, and License Requirements:
A minimum of a high school diploma
One year of relevant experience (additional education or experience may substitute)
Valid driver's license with clean driving record
CPR/First Aid (provided by an agency)
Ability to pass fingerprinting and background checks
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Effective, respectful, and professional written and verbal communication
Rapport building and maintenance with youth and adults
Impeccable working relationships and knowledge of local agencies (such as DHS)
Excellent time management, interpersonal, and organizational skills
Problem solving/crisis management skills
Professional boundaries and self-care routines
The ability to hold others accountable
Presentation/training experience
Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and adequate typing skills
Understanding and application of Trauma Informed Care and Collaborative Problem Solving
Physical Aspects:
General office and/or field setting.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk and sit.
The employee may occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Needs adequate visual acuity, ability to grasp and handle objects.
Needs ability to communicate effectively through reading, writing, and speaking in person or on telephone.
The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel or crouch.
May require offsite travel. Will use personal car or vehicle for travel and/or transportation.
Willing and able to drive in various road and weather conditions
Have or be able to obtain the necessary auto insurance by start of employment
Ability to work irregular days and/or hours, if needed
