The role of the Marine Service Foreperson is to serve as the lead marine technician and work in collaboration with the Service Manager to oversee shop productivity, organization, cleanliness, safety, and profitability.
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensures all technicians follow safety policies and procedures at all times
Serve as the lead technician who sets the highest standard for shop productivity
Perform routine maintenance on boats and motors, including changing oil, checking fluid levels, and inspecting for damage or wear
Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair all mechanical and electrical issues on boat, motors and trailers
Responsible for ensuring that all staff keeps shop clean and organized daily
Monitors shop supply inventory and orders as needed
Ensures that tools are organized, accounted for and well maintained
Meets with Service Manager daily to review workflow
Communicates with customers on technical issues as needed
Exercises precaution to ensure cleanliness of boat (booties, runners, covers etc.)
Helps test (sea trial) customer boats to ensure repairs were performed correctly
Submit work orders/parts requests to Service Manager to obtain customer authorized parts
Helps supervise the work/repair order from initial order to job completion
Reports incomplete work orders to Service Manager
Follows manufacturer warranty policies and procedures
Review all recalls, service bulletins and product updates
Attends training seminars as needed
Performs other related duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
A high school diploma or equivalent
Experience in the marine industry (service department experience preferred)
Solid understanding of marine products, dealership business, and sales process helpful
Must have knowledge of 12v electrical, rigging, and four stroke outboard engine diagnostics
Mercury and/or Yamaha outboard certification is preferred
Ability to operate computer, use/learn diagnostic and fleet management software
Ability to communicate at a high level, both verbally and in writing
Be team-oriented, self-motivated, and process driven with excellent leadership skills
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals
Have a valid state driver’s license
