Job Purpose
The Mechanical Designer is an integral part of the Service & Engineering Department and is responsible for creating drawings, preparing detailed Bill of Materials (BOMs) and Quotes, and supports the sales process in joint effort with interdisciplinary colleagues. Additionally, this role confers with internal and external project teams, and is involved with commissioning new inductive power and electrification systems. The Mechanical Designer is responsible for maintaining and supporting growth of our industry-leading automation products and electrification systems. Thus, the Mechanical Designer indirectly contributes to profitable growth of VAHLE Inc. business. In addition, the person is involved in carrying out Lean Management initiatives and Quality Management activities with a focus on delivering improvements in the warehouse production/fabrication processes.
Main Responsibilities
Responsibilities are task-oriented and focus on duties, obligations and processes that must be in place to satisfactorily perform a task and achieve a goal.
Service & Engineering
▪ Attain & Maintain product knowledge and advice regarding use of VAHLE product/application portfolio and determine the most economical and efficient solution for customers on a regular basis.
▪ Provide RFQ engineering information to Commercial Sales by answering questions and requests in a timely manner via SAP.
▪ Consult with Technical Services regarding quoting details if service request is a part of the RFQ/customer inquiry and document this in SAP.
▪ Review with manager critical customer requirements, determine customer needs and recommend the correct products per application planning.
▪ Complete all training assigned, including OSHA safety training, product training, professional development, etc.
Additional Tasks
▪ Contribute to continuous improvement processes in close collaboration with relevant interfaces based on lean management methods with special regard to warehouse and production operations (e.g. 5-S, KAIZEN) in accordance to VAHLE Group standards and in collaboration with the Service & Engineering Manager.
▪ Able to understand and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
▪ Able to understand and apply procedures for Design, Installation and Repairs.
Educational background
▪ H.S. Diploma, Degree or Certificate in Mechanical/Electrical field or higher is required
Professional experiences
▪ 2+ years of proven related job experience in mechanical operations, field services or technical development in wholesale, distribution or manufacturing industry with international business relations (ideally with HQ abroad).
▪ Experience as a Designer in a Manufacturing environment (preferred).
▪ Focus on mechanical design | Demonstrated competencies and work experience in the analysis, design, application and integration of mechanical systems, ideally in the field of positioning systems, conductor bars, cable festoon systems, charging contacts.
▪ Experience in multitude of manufacturing processes using metals, plastics, adhesives
▪ Proven ability to implement technical projects and to effectively organize, plan, prioritize, document, and complete work efficiently with minimum supervision
▪ Experience in development of application solutions balancing customer needs and economic aspects
▪ Experience in failure analysis and root cause analysis as well as development of verification, validation and acceptance test protocols
▪ Experience to provide technical information to and interact with non-technic target group (internally & externally)
Technical Competencies
▪ Solid Modeling (Solidworks, Solid Edge, AutoCAD).
▪ Experienced user working with technical drawing/application planning software such as CAD
▪ Proficiency with MS Outlook, Excel, Power Point, Word, Visio, Access
▪ Basic Knowledge of CRM and ERP Systems (ideally SAP) would be a plus
