The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for applying research and principles of engineering to the planning, design, development, documentation, and testing/debugging of a variety of instruments, equipment, systems, and/or software with our automation manufacturing equipment.
This position is part of the Manufacturing Automation Engineering department and is located in Lodi, CA, as an onsite swing shift role. Start time is approximately 1 pm, with Fridays and Saturdays off. At Cepheid, our vision is to be the leading provider of seamlessly connected diagnostic solutions.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
Creates and assigns tasks for mechanical system Reliability-centered maintenance, Preventive Maintenance, Predictive Maintenance, and Condition-based Maintenance programs.
Responds to escalations, executes, repairs, and monitors critical mechanical work processes - Inspections, Mechanical Safety, and provides Engineering Feedback to the manager for improvements to automated lines. Design prototypes for machine improvements. Identify and lead small improvement projects, PSPs, DOEs, etc.
Leads problem-solving efforts and Failure Analysis (IFA) for mechanical systems – sensors, HMIs, gearboxes, actuators, pneumatics, bearings, motors, robotics, fiber optics, vision systems, welding systems, servo systems, heating systems, RTDs and thermal probes, MCCs, and P&IDs, etc. Creates troubleshooting documents and assists with technician development through technical training and OTJ.
The essential requirements of the job include:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field and 2+ years of relevant work experience
Experience with SolidWorks and Microsoft Applications –Visio, Power BI, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and AutoCAD.
Proven work experience with mechanical problem-solving in a manufacturing environment
Design experience
Experience with basic hand tools and measuring equipment, including calipers, digital/laser ruler, protractor, 3D printer, etc.
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
Hands-on experience with electro-mechanical equipment.
Experience with Minitab
Experience with Six Sigma tools
The salary range for this role is $70,400 - $98,100 annually. This is the range that we in good faith, believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.
This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
