    The Opportunity:

Our client, a leader in data center development, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support projects across their data center project portfolio. This position is a critical part of the technical team, supporting all aspects of the project lifecycle, from site origination through facility operations.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of providing both design and field-level mechanical engineering support for complex design and construction projects in the data center, industrial design/build, or similar industrial construction industries. The successful candidate will possess excellent strategic thinking skills, a customer service orientation, strong organizational and communication abilities, and the capacity to work effectively in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.

    Responsibilities

    • Lead, direct, and manage MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) engineering consultants in the design, permitting, and coordination of MEP engineering, specifically in mechanical, plumbing, and data center cooling disciplines. General knowledge of all areas from a design and construction perspective is required, including understanding central cooling plants and large-scale cooling distribution systems.
    • Coordinate with customers to understand MEP engineering-related design requirements on a project-by-project basis.
    • Use experience with data center cooling strategies, including air-cooled and liquid cooling solutions, to guide and support the design team and translate customer needs into actionable designs.
    • Provide on-site field support during construction, ensuring MEP engineering work adheres to design specifications and standards.
    • Collaborate with design and construction teams to address site-specific challenges and optimize designs for constructability.
    • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to commercial teams and program managers, providing technical data and insights for key stakeholder decisions.
    • Support the preparation of construction documents (CDs), including drawings, specifications, and scopes of work for MEP components of data center projects. CDs production will be performed by third-party consultants.
    • Review contractor work, submittals, and RFIs to ensure MEP engineering elements meet quality standards and project requirements.
    • Build and maintain relationships with permitting agencies, vendors, and client technical experts.
    • Identify risks throughout the project lifecycle, from site origination through operations.
    • Contribute to the growth of the engineering team by helping establish engineering standards and processes.
    • Support site construction teams with MEP engineering pre-construction services.
    • Work with government and jurisdictional agencies on complex MEP reviews, permitting, and Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) approval processes.

    Experience:

    • 7+ years of experience leading commercial or industrial MEP design projects, with specific expertise in data center critical cooling systems.
    • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, AutoCAD, REVIT, NAVISWORKS, and Bluebeam Revu.
    • Knowledge of MEP design and construction practices and processes.
    • Familiarity with sustainability and integrated design guidelines.
    • Experience with QA/QC and specification processes.
    • Strong organizational skills and ability to coordinate large teams and consultants.
    • Ability to present ideas clearly, concisely, and professionally, both verbally and in writing.
    • Experience communicating with senior leaders and executives.
    • Knowledge of data center industry trends (preferred).
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to work independently while collaborating with a cross-functional team.
    • Comfort with ambiguity and ability to make decisions under challenging circumstances.
    • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines with high-quality results.

    Education:

    • Accredited professional degree in Mechanical Engineering or related fields (EIT required). Sustainable design accreditation and/or professional licensure preferred.
