Job Summary
This position works in a team environment to design and develop commercial and light industrial HVAC, piping, and plumbing systems. The Mechanical Engineer will perform such tasks as load calculations, energy simulations, equipment selections, and duct/piping/plumbing layouts. You will maintain communication with CAD detailers, other engineers, project managers, and field personnel.
Responsibilities
- Develop engineering scope for projects with Senior Engineers and Project Managers.
- Perform detailed load calculations with Trane Trace 700® and interpret the results.
- Perform equipment selections to satisfy engineering scope and calculated load requirements.
- Develop HVAC documents including, but not limited to, duct sizing & routing, air distribution selection, pipe sizing & routing.
- Coordinate mechanical requirements with architects, electrical, structural & civil engineers.
- Develop Plumbing documents, including but not limited to, sanitary and vent sizing, domestic cold water and hot water sizing, and pipe routings.
- Ensure compliance of designs with all applicable codes, standards, and regulations.
- Perform life-cycle cost analysis among system alternatives to determine the energy impacts of each alternative and assist in system selection.
- Perform job site inspections and develop field reports.
- Identify and meet our commitments to the customer (owners, general contractors, etc.), design/construction team members (architects, electrical engineers, other trade contractors, etc.), and internal customers.
- Utilize Revit® 2018 (or higher) to support job responsibilities and document development.
- Provide input and technical guidance to CAD designers/drafters.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or engineering technology (Preferably Mechanical Engineering).
- Obtained Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification.
- Registered Professional Engineer or plans to take the exam within 2 years.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in the commercial HVAC arena.
- Minimum 5 years of experience of direct experience in the design and development of mechanical and plumbing systems.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- An understanding of the costs of mechanical systems and installation.
- Ability to convey technical requirements/systems in fundamental terms.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND CHARACTERISTICS
- Ability to represent our clients professionally and proficiently in meetings with customers.
- Must have basic PC experience in Windows environments with demonstrated competency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.), Web-enabled applications, and database software.

- Must possess and maintain exceptional work ethic as well as uphold company values and demand the highest standard of conduct from self and others.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT
- Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office environment.
- Work will require construction job site visits. This will require the physical ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs and ladders, passenger use of construction personnel hoists, and the ability to negotiate work areas under construction.
- Light physical effort handling average-weight objects up to 25 pounds may be required occasionally.
