    Job Description

    The Mechanical Engineering Intern learns from a team that keeps NSI on the cutting edge of NDT technology. This position sustains existing product and supports technical innovations to industrial x-ray, automation, and CT products from prototype to commercialization.

    What you will do:

    • Collaborate with engineers to provide robust mechanical design and technical support of NSI products and components throughout product lifecycle.
    • Analyze and have input to complex machine designs incorporating motion control systems, robotics, and part handling in accordance with product requirements.
    • Design assemblies and components using SolidWorks.
    • Prepare detailed drawings and bills of materials for the fabrication and assembly of equipment.
    • Provide analysis of drive systems, structural assemblies and sub-components using basic calculation methods and Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
    • Interface with manufacturing to support product assembly, testing, troubleshooting and installation.
    • Interface with project/product management to ensure projects meet schedule and delivery requirements.
    • Develop working knowledge of X-ray and NDT techniques through NSI technical experts and practical application.
    • Lead and participate in design reviews for minor designs with cross functional teams and customers.
    • Collaborate with a cross functional team of software, controls, and NDT engineers to develop innovative solutions.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    What you bring:

    • Completed junior year or higher when the internship begins.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
    • Proficient in 3D CAD software, preferably SolidWorks.
    • Ability to effectively communicate complex technical information to a diverse range of internal stakeholders.
    • Knowledge of all phases of mechanical hardware development and qualification.
    • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams (e.g., Sales, Supply Chain, Software, Manufacturing, Service).
    • Solid understanding of mechanical principles.
    • Familiarity with machine design, automation, and robotics.
    • Strong time management and prioritization abilities.
    • Experience with optical or X-ray imaging systems is a plus.
    • Self-motivated with a commitment to continuous learning.
    • Ability to take initiative and lead when appropriate.
    • Successfully pass pre-employment drug and background checks.
    • Documentation to verify eligibility to work in the United States.

    Additional Information

    The pay rate for this position ranges from $24-27 an hour based on education and experience.
