Qualifications
- Master's degree is optional
- Bachelor's degree is required
- Specific Degree Field Required: Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related technical disciplines
- 10+ years of experience working in a product development role
- Proficient in the design of parts/assemblies/drawings using SolidWorks, or similar tools
- Proficient in conducting structural/thermal analysis using ANSYS and similar engineering analysis packages
- Demonstrated experience leading a team of Engineers
Skills and Abilities
- Successful experience in managing an Engineering team in a for-profit company.
- Recognized leadership abilities and willingness to take initiative and ownership.
- An understanding of how to manage programs and projects, through manufacturing best practices, and good supply chain management.
- Ability to manage product or service staff to accomplish successful business results by working effectively in teams while solving technical or administrative problems.
- Ability to implement product or service goals and monitor their progress.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, tailored to the appropriate audience.
- Ability to communicate to department and senior management with suggestions and critical feedback.
- Effectively change plans, goals, actions or priorities to deal with changing situations, changing gears in response to unpredictable or unexpected events.
- Have computer skills that include using electronic information for timely decisions.
- Knowledge of the defense and military industry with some specific knowledge about the external customer base for the assigned product.
- Provide thorough, accurate information to answer internal or external customers’ questions and to meet commitment times or performance guarantees.
- Actively look for ways to help both internal and external customers by identifying and proposing appropriate solutions and/or services, adjusting services based on customer feedback.

Travel/Physical Requirements
- Role is onsite at ESA’s Roanoke, VA location
- 5% travel may be required (approx. one week every three months)
- Work is usually conducted in an office setting, Engineering Lab, or assembly area
- Hearing, vision, and breathing protection provided, when needed in appropriate areas
- Some exposure to elements of weather when traveling and/or moving between buildings
- Overtime may be required on occasion
