    HVAC & Hydronics Estimator

    Summary
Direct and oversee HVAC and Hydronics projects from conception to completion, ensuring compliance with company standards, safety protocols, and applicable regulations. This role involves leading all phases of project estimating and execution, with a particular focus on mechanical hydronic systems—chilled water, hot water, and steam piping—to deliver high-quality results that meet financial objectives and client expectations.

    Duties & Responsibilities

    Project Estimating & Cost Analysis

    • Perform quantity take-offs, cost estimating, cost analysis, and bid reviews for commercial and industrial HVAC, VRF, and mechanical hydronic systems (including piping, pumps, boilers, chillers, etc.).
    • Determine competitive and accurate estimates to achieve margin and financial targets.
    • Organize and manage cost estimating models to ensure current and strategic pricing data is used during proposal development.
    • Consistently refine estimating formulas, factoring in material costs, labor, equipment rental, and subcontractor pricing for both HVAC and hydronic systems.

    Project Coordination & Turnover

    • Work closely with existing Project Managers on estimating activities and to identify new business development opportunities.
    • Follow up with potential clients to finalize agreements, ensuring scope alignment and clarity on both HVAC and hydronics project requirements.
    • Obtain permits and licenses from appropriate authorities, ensuring that designs and installations for HVAC and hydronic systems meet code and regulatory requirements.
    • Coordinate planning and turnover meetings with construction operations to meet project deadlines, technical performance goals, and financial targets.

    Execution & Delivery

    • Lead the execution of assigned projects to standards, with particular attention to the unique requirements of hydronic systems (e.g., proper piping layouts, pressure testing, insulation).
    • Interface with service technicians and field teams to ensure projects are delivered per estimates; guide technicians in gathering necessary site data when in-person visits are not feasible.
    • Assess and mitigate risks related to both HVAC and hydronic designs and installations, ensuring continuous compliance with safety standards and best practices.

    Client & Team Engagement

    • Address inquiries from customers and team members in a professional manner, offering expert guidance on both HVAC and hydronic solutions.
    • Provide detailed progress reports and maintain open communication channels to keep stakeholders updated.
    • Prepare and maintain marketing and promotional materials for various campaigns, targeting both HVAC and hydronic clients.
    • Generate leads and expand the customer base through mailing and calling efforts focused on HVAC, VRF, and hydronic solutions.

    Safety & Compliance

    • Ensure adherence to all health and safety standards, particularly those impacting hydronic system installations (e.g., steam, hot water).
    • Quickly identify and report any safety or compliance issues to the appropriate parties to maintain a safe working environment.

    Qualifications
    Education & Experience

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
    • 7+ years of proven experience managing estimates and projects for HVAC, plumbing, and hydronic systems.
    • Demonstrated skill in conceptual estimating and budgeting for large-scale commercial and industrial projects.

    Technical Proficiency

    • In-depth understanding of estimating and construction procedures, including piping and system layouts for hot water, steam, and chilled water systems.
    • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, structural drawings, and plan sets (familiarity with mechanical/hydronic schematics is crucial).
    • Advanced knowledge of estimating and project management software (e.g., Bluebeam, Estimation) and high proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
    • Familiarity with relevant mechanical codes and standards (ASHRAE, SMACNA, ASME) is advantageous.

    Core Competencies

    • Outstanding communication and negotiation skills to facilitate discussions with clients, vendors, and internal teams.
    • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, capable of balancing multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Advanced understanding of risk management policies, especially related to hydronic piping safety and high-temperature applications.
    • Proven ability to manage budgets effectively for construction projects, ensuring profitability and cost control.
    • Team-oriented leadership abilities, including collaboration across engineering, construction, and service functions.
    • Professional, ethical, and driven to grow with the company.

    Physical Requirements

    • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
    • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
