    About Buildings + Places:

    Our Buildings + Places practice includes architecture, interiors, building and system engineering, urbanism, planning (including landscape design), strategy +, economics, technology solutions, asset advisory, and cost and program management. This diverse team assists our clients from strategy through project realization, creating positive outcomes for those who occupy and use the buildings and environments we help to create. Our Chicago studio focuses on the Commercial/Corporate, Science and Technology, Higher Education, and Federal market sectors. We look to combine beauty, sustainability, resiliency, equity, and innovation in our projects and believe these values can be instilled in any project regardless of size or budget.

    Some of our recent projects include tenant build-out spaces, a water reclamation office building and lab facility, a Joint Public Safety Training Center, Package distribution warehouses, and cutting-edge scientific research facilities.

    AECOM is seeking a Mechanical Intern to be based in Chicago, IL

    The Mechanical Intern will work in a highly collaborative environment on a wide range of projects. The ideal candidate will have a passion for designing and building mechanical HVAC systems. The Engineer will be responsible for performing basic technical calculations and design under the supervision of a senior mechanical engineer.

    This position is expected to begin in May or June 2025.

    The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

    • Performs a variety of assignments and tasks designed to develop professional work knowledge and abilities while working under close supervision.
    • Assisting with calculations, drafting, and setting up project design plans and documents.
    • Provide HVAC and plumbing equipment research support.
    • Communicating with vendors and coordinating learning sessions.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Candidates must be pursuing a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or architectural engineering and must have completed at least one year of study. Candidates who have recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree and plan to continue with the master’s degree are eligible to apply for these positions. Recent graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Assist in the production of all phases of the design process.
    • General knowledge of architectural and engineering drawings.
    • Some Knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Revit.
    • Knowledgeable of Microsoft Office Suite programs.
    • Well organized and possesses an innovative mindset.

    • Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, and experience. The anticipated hourly rate for this position is $20.00/hr.
