    Job Overview:: AIMS Locum Tenens is seeking a qualified Medical Assistant to provide comprehensive support to healthcare providers at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth (NMCP). The Medical Assistant will be responsible for assisting with patient care, managing administrative tasks, and ensuring smooth clinic operations. This role includes direct patient interaction, handling medical records, performing routine diagnostic procedures, and assisting in various specialized departments, including NICU, Pediatrics, OBGYN, Gastroenterology, Ophthalmology, Internal Medicine, and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

    General Duties::

    Clinical Privileges: Provide services within the scope of clinical privileges granted by the Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) Director

    Contractual Obligations: Perform tasks as per the basic contract and outlined duties.

    Specific Duties:

    Patient Records Management: Obtain, review, and manage patients' medical records following appropriate procedures. Ensure charts are complete with provider signatures, stamps, and patient diagnoses before returning them to Health Records.

    Provider Assistance: Assist healthcare providers during exams, ensuring patient comfort and effective procedure execution. Transport patients to other clinical areas as needed.

    Medication Administration: After a physician verifies the medicine and dosage, administer medications and immunizations to patients.

    Diagnostic Support: Obtain lab and X-ray results, perform diagnostic procedures like EKGs and urine tests, and operate medical equipment such as Automatic Blood Pressure Monitors and EKG machines.

    Patient Communication: Contact patients regarding appointments, test results, and instructions from providers. Schedule appointments, perform reminder functions, and handle patient inquiries.

    Equipment Management: Ensure all medical equipment is safe and operational. Remove broken or unsafe equipment from the clinic and notify appropriate personnel.

    Clerical Support: Perform receptionist, record-keeping, and clerical tasks, including patient check-in, retrieving records, answering phones, and managing logs and reports.

    Specialized Departmental Duties:

    NICU: Prepare infants for screenings, perform hearing screenings, maintain strict patient identification protocols, and manage records and logs.

    Pediatrics: Administer medications, immunizations, and dental fluoride as ordered.

    OBGYN/Women's Health: Monitor patient responses during examinations, take vital signs, and consult with supervisors regarding patient care.

    Gastroenterology: Assist during colonoscopies and EGDs, perform IV insertions, and operate colonoscopy scopes.

    Ophthalmology: Perform front desk duties, notify patients of abnormal lab results, and assist with refractive surgery programs.

    Internal Medicine: Assist in orientation and training of new personnel, propose labs, medications, and referrals, and maintain access to DEERS and Humana systems.

    Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation: Provide patient and family education, document assessments and treatments, ensure cleanliness, and perform clerical duties in support of clinic operations.

    Qualifications:

    Degree/Education: Possess a high school diploma or GED certificate. Must be a graduate of a medical assistant training program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) of the American Medical Technologists, a formal medical services training program of the United States Armed Forces, or another formal program approved by the MTF.

    Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. No additional certifications required.

    Experience: Possess a minimum of 1 year of experience as a Medical Assistant within the last 3 years. Must provide two (2) letters of recommendation written within the last two (2) years attesting to clinical skills. At least one (1) letter must be from a physician or supervisor who has personally observed and evaluated the Medical Assistant. Specific to the Internal Medicine department, 1 year of experience is preferred but not required.

    Board Certification: Not required.

    Licensure/Registration: None required.

    Skills and Abilities:

    Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.

    Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
