    JOB STATEMENT

    The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting physicians in providing quality clinical services to patients and requires frequent supervision.

    JOB FUNCTIONS

    • Prepares treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean.
    • Cleans and sterilizes instruments and disposes of contaminated supplies.
    • Shows patients to examination rooms and prepares them for the physician.
    • Conducts patient intakes (e.g., blood pressure, pulse, respirations, temperature, etc.)
    • Performs various screenings (e.g., vision and hearing) per protocol.
    • Assists physicians with patient examinations (e.g., handing them instruments, etc.)
    • Records patients' medical history, vital statistics, or information such as test results in medical records.
    • Explains treatment procedures and physicians' instructions to patients.
    • Assists with communication between patients and physicians (to include translation if applicable) in order to communicate pertinent information.
    • Prepares and administers medications as directed by a physician or by protocol.
    • Performs subcutaneous, intramuscular, and intradermal injections as directed by a physician.
    • Performs phlebotomy (drawing of blood form patients) per protocol.
    • Performs point of care testing as needed.
    • Effectively uses pertinent medical instruments in the performance of duties (e.g., electrocardiograms “EKGs”, spirometry, and ear irrigations).
    • Handles tissue or other laboratory specimens, log the specimens, and prepares them for testing.
    • Performs general office duties (e.g., answering telephones, taking notes, scanning, etc.).
    • Contacts other medical departments to schedule patients for various testing.
    • Prepares pertinent medical documents (e.g., DME, Immunizations Records, Sports Physicals, etc.)
    • Performs other tasks as required by management.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Education: * Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent
    • Specialized Training/Certifications/Licenses : * Medical Assistant Program from an accredited institution. * Current Health Care Provider CPR Certification.
    • Experience * None
    • Knowledge * Basic understanding of CLIA and OSHA. * Fluent in Spanish, a plus.

    • Abilities: * Must be able to speak, read, write, and comprehend the English language. * Ability to stand/walk for majority of the shift. * Must be able to bend or stoop. * Must be able to lift 20 lbs. unassisted * Must have good vision (e.g. near acuity and depth perception) * Must be able to physically assist patients that may be in physical distress, fainting/falling or provide general assistance if mobility of patient is impaired.
    • Other: * Must be able to periodically work on Saturdays. * May require some local travel between different clinic locations. * Must be able to maintain required immunizations as required by the organization.
