    Job Description

    The Certified Medical Assistant - Float is responsible for collecting patient information and delivering direct care in collaboration with a provider. This position supports primarily providers at the med center location, but occasional travel to satellite locations in Houston may be required as needed Position requires flexibility and adaptability to varying workflows. The role ensures high-quality, compassionate care within a team-based environment.

    Responsibility A: Assists with the Collection of Patient/Family Data

    • Gathers biophysical, psychosocial, and environmental data per protocol.
    • Accurately documents vital signs, height/weight, BMI, and visit reason.
    • Updates documentation of recent care received elsewhere.
    • Documents allergies, current medications, and medical history.
    • Measured by provider feedback, observation, and EHR accuracy.

    Responsibility B: Provides General Patient Care

    • Prepares patients and rooms for exams according to protocols.
    • Assists during exams and procedures, performing tasks within scope.
    • Documents interventions, submits prescription refills, and returns patient calls.
    • Participates in care coordination and office emergencies.
    • Maintains stocked rooms and reports low supplies.
    • Engages in daily huddles and care team activities.
    • FLOAT-SPECIFIC: Quickly adapts to new teams, protocols, and patient and provider needs across various clinic locations.
    • Performance reviewed through EHR audits and provider feedback.

    Responsibility C: Administers Medication and Immunizations

    • Administers medications and vaccines as ordered by provider.
    • Follows vaccine program guidelines for eligibility and documentation.
    • Reports and documents errors and adverse reactions.
    • FLOAT-SPECIFIC: Ensures medication protocols and documentation align with each location's process.
    • Evaluated by provider feedback and supply variance reviews.

    Responsibility D: Supports in Office Procedures and Imaging

    • Provides procedure consents as indicated.
    • Records all procedures, and consents and imaging performed back into the EMR.
    • Assessed by documentation review and provider feedback.

    Responsibility E: Coordinates Referrals, Imaging Orders and Surgery Scheduling

    • Ensures timely communication with referral, imaging and hospital agencies.
    • Maintains accurate referral logs and assures provider review.
    • Provides Continuity of Care documentation to receiving referral source and create a request for authorization if indicated.
    • FLOAT-SPECIFIC: Understands unique referral processes of assigned locations.
    • Evaluated by EHR audit and provider input.

    ​​​​Responsibility F: Laboratory Testing, Specimen Collection

    • Follows provider orders for specimen collection and lab testing
    • Complies with CLIA/COLA and OSHA standards.
    • FLOAT-SPECIFIC: Maintains familiarity with lab workflows across multiple sites.
    • Measured by audits, survey reports, and supervisor feedback.

    ​​​​​​​Responsibility G: Maintains Certification

    • Completes all required CE hours for certification.
    • Retains documentation and ensures content aligns with job duties.
    • Evaluated by certification status and CE documentation.

    Responsibility H: Demonstrates Service Excellence

    • Follows customer service principles as outlined by practice.
    • Maintains professionalism and effective communication.
    • FLOAT-SPECIFIC: Maintains continuity of care and team culture across sites.
    • Observed by supervisors and peer feedback.

    • Responds to in-person and telephone patient concerns within scope.
    • Accurately documents all communication in the EHR.
    • Adheres to emergency response protocols.
    • Measured through call audits, provider feedback, and documentation review. ​​​​​​​

    Knowledge and Skills

    • Proficient in ob/gyn assessment and care, OSHA/CLIA/COLA regulations, medical terminology, and EHR systems.
    • Capable of using basic medical and office equipment.
    • Strong interpersonal and multitasking abilities.
    • FLOAT-SPECIFIC: High adaptability, time management, and ability to thrive in various team dynamics.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Hight School Diploma or GED required
    • Completion of Medical Assistant or EMT program
    • Must have reliable transportation.
    • Willingness to travel across multiple ob/gyn clinic locations.
    • Mileage reimbursement per organizational policy.

    The hourly rate for this vacancy is between $16-$21 Per hour. Compensation is based on education, experience and geographical location.
