Overview of the Role:
The Medical Assistant is responsible for providing high-quality care in alignment with departmental objectives. This role requires efficient management of equipment, supplies, and ancillary services. The incumbent must establish and maintain effective communication and professional relationships with physicians and office personnel to ensure optimal patient care. A comprehensive understanding of non-judgmental care is essential, particularly as it relates to addressing the psychological and emotional needs of patients.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
The position demands a high level of flexibility, including work in satellite offices, coverage for staff vacancies, and/or managing other physicians' calls. The Medical Assistant is expected to contribute to the orientation of new staff members and serve as a patient advocate. Professional conduct and appearance are imperative, as the individual represents the organization. The role involves frequent exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions typical of a clinical environment.
Direct Patient Care Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
Professionally receive and escort patients to examination rooms, ensuring their comfort and preparedness for medical evaluation.
Meticulously prepare patients for examinations, including obtaining urine specimens, recording vital signs, documenting symptoms, complaints, and medications, and preparing for laboratory tests and procedures.
Verify and update patients' demographic information with utmost accuracy.
Provide critical assistance to physicians, residents, and fellows during examinations and procedures.
Administer injections and provide comprehensive patient education on self-administration when necessary.
Facilitate patient care by assisting with obtaining laboratory slips, referrals, scheduling procedures, and managing prescriptions.
Demonstrate vigilance in recognizing urgent or emergency situations and respond with appropriate, decisive action.
Accompany patients experiencing medical emergencies to the hospital, providing continuous monitoring until the patient is under the care of hospital staff. Thoroughly document all events in the patient's medical record.
Ensure accurate recording of charges and diagnoses on chart forms or obtain this critical information from the physician.
Maintain strict adherence to patient confidentiality protocols.
Implement rigorous infection control practices, including proper disposal of contaminated materials, adherence to hand hygiene protocols, and thorough disinfection of patient areas.
Perform phlebotomy procedures with precision and care.
Provide comprehensive assistance in pre- and post-operative care.
Diligently monitor established pregnancies through meticulous laboratory work and ultrasound procedures.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient charts, testing records, and flow sheets.
Telephone Triage Responsibilities:
Conduct thorough evaluations of incoming calls to identify emergencies and triage appropriately.
Maintain comprehensive documentation of all phone interactions in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
Coordinate and schedule various medical procedures and appointments with precision and attention to detail.
Provide patients with comprehensive education on healthcare concerns, office and hospital procedures, reproductive health, medications, and medical testing.
Address patient inquiries with professionalism and accuracy.
Initiate and complete the pre-certification process for medical procedures, ensuring all necessary documentation is properly filed and communicated.
Manage medication refill authorizations and new prescription communications with utmost care and attention to detail.
Conduct thorough reviews of all laboratory work in conjunction with the attending physician, ensuring prompt and appropriate patient notification of results.
Adhere strictly to designated "on-call" lunch schedules to maintain continuous patient care coverage.
Qualifications
Essential Education, Certifications, and Licensure
High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate is mandatory.
Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program is a non-negotiable requirement.
Active certification from the American Association of Medical Assistants is imperative.
Current and valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification is essential.
Physical Requirements
The role demands exceptional physical capabilities and resilience. Candidates must possess:
Full range of body motion, including the ability to handle and lift patients safely and effectively.
Superior manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination for precise medical procedures.
Capacity to stand and walk for extended periods without compromising performance.
Strength to occasionally lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
Vision and hearing correctable to normal range to ensure accurate patient assessment and care.
Mental fortitude to work under high-stress conditions and irregular hours without diminishing quality of care.

The hourly rate for this vacancy ranges from $16 to $20 Per hour. Compensation is based on education, prior experience, and geographical location.
