  • Responsibilities

    Immediate opening for a Full Time Floater Medical Assistant Position in a busy FAST PACED clinic. The Medical Assistant Floater will be cross-trained in both the Clinical and Front Desk departments. The Medical Assistant Floater will provide both back and front office support as assigned by the Manager and Supervisor. We are looking for a high energy, detail-oriented, bilingual (Spanish) Medical Assistant to assist our providers with office procedures, vitals, clerical work, etc. Will be used as a floater in other areas of the clinic such as front desk, billing, scheduling, answering heavy phones, EMR, etc. We offer on the job training; however previous experience is a necessity. Must possess great communication skills, get along well with other staff and enjoy working with patients. Reports to the Administrator and Front Office Supervisor.     Essential Medical Assistant Functions:

    · Patient Intake

    · Checks to see which patients are checked-in for their appointment through EMR system

    · Obtains weight, height, vital signs prior to going into the room

    · Enters the patient’s vitals into the computer, as well as the chief complaint and any new medications/allergies

    · Performs eye and ear screening as necessary on physical examinations

    · Verifies provider schedule regularly for updates or changes via computer

    · Calls other offices/medical facilities for patient medical information as necessary

    · Answers heavy phones so must have great phone etiquette

    · Performs back-up for other Medical Assistants as needed.

    Clinical Procedures

    · Sets up and assists providers for procedures such as pap smears, cortisone injections, EKG, Spirometry, and other procedures as indicated.

    · Performs pulse ox, blood glucose and other procedures as assigned.

    · Gives glucometer and insulin pen training and any other instruction to patients as requested by Providers or patients.

    · Requests all lab and hospital results and scans into patient chart.

    · Administers vaccines and subcutaneous/IM medications.

    · Operates autoclave machine.

    Clinical Supplies/Equipment Management

    · Recognizes when supplies are low and places orders on supply order form.

    · Receives medical supply orders and stocks in proper storage place in office.

    · Performs quality control checks on medical equipment.

    · Checks and stocks examination rooms daily.

    · Wipes down examination room tables and Nurse’s station counters after morning and evening sessions.

    · Checks EMR for tasks and performs tasks in a timely manner

    · Processes physician orders and referrals in a timely manner

    Miscellaneous Tasks

    · Periodically checks Nurse’s Station area for cleanliness and tidiness.

    · Shreds all papers with sensitive patient or organization information.

    · Completes other duties as assigned by Managers or Providers.

    Essential Receptionist Duties:

    Phone Inquiries:

    · Answers the telephone with exceptional telephone etiquette and communication skills.

    · Responds to phone call calls in order of queued calls and either redirects calls as appropriate or politely places callers on hold.

    · Identifies triage telephone calls and patient’s concern(s) then forwards caller to appropriate party.

    · Transfers any other calls to appropriate staff person(s) as necessary

    Appointment Management

    · Verifies patient demographics and insurance eligibility before scheduling appointments.

    · Emails or mails correct paperwork to patients for appointments.

    · Obtains appropriate documents, records, and paperwork for patients when scheduling hospital follow-up, other provider/procedural follow-up, pre-operative, and any other specified appointments.

    · Contacts and schedules interpreter through contracted interpreting agencies as needed.

    · Cancels and/or reschedules appointments as necessary.

    Miscellaneous Tasks

    · Calls patients with response from providers and other staff members with answers to patient questions, lab/test results, etc.

    · Faxes documents to other offices and providers as necessary.

    · Signs patients up for the Patient Portal and assists in routine troubleshooting of portal issues and uploading patient documents on the portal when requested.

    · Completes insurance referrals as necessary.

    · Periodically checks front office area for cleanliness and tidiness.

    · Shreds all papers with sensitive patient or organization information.

    · Completes other duties as assigned by Managers or Providers.

    Personal Conduct:

    · Comes to work on time, well-groomed, and with a good attitude.

    · Uses good judgment in decision-making and communicating with all patients, staff, and other persons associated with the organization.

    · Communicates any patients, personnel, or electronic system problems with the appropriate supervising Manager in a timely and honest fashion

    Experience:

    · Medical Assistant: 2 years (Required)

    · Reception: 1 year (Preferred)

    Additional Desired Skills:

    Prior experience as a medical assistant floater in a physician or doctor’s office with good computer skills is highly preferred. At least two years of prior experience as a medical assistant floater in a health care setting or clinic is expected.

    Strong knowledge and understanding of different insurance company’s policies.

    Knowledge about medical billing (of medical doctor) along with the knowledge of ‘Current Procedural Terminology (CPT)’ code and ‘International Classification of Diseases (ICD-9)’ codes.

    Good interpersonal skills in addition to the the effective communication skills.

    Education:

    · Graduation from a medical assistant training school (Required)

    · High school or equivalent (Required)

    License

    · CMA (Preferred)
