Hematology and Oncology practice in the Sherman Oaks is seeking an experienced Medical Assistant to perform both front and back office duties in a professional, organized and ethical manner and work closely with the physician in the clinical setting.
Major Duties/Responsibilities Include (but not limited to):
Greeting patients with a friendly, compassionate and professional demeanor
Utilizing a desktop or laptop computer for data entry and daily office functions
Scheduling appointments (i.e. new patient, follow-up, chemotherapy, outside providers)
Answering phones/Scanning/Faxing/Emailing
Entering patient demographic and insurance information accurately
Verifying patient insurance and eligibility
Checking patients in at time of arrival
Collecting co-payments/deductibles/account balances
Triage/Interview patients
Vital Signs, injections, venipunctures, gather specimens and send to lab for processing timely
Document chief complaint/medical history/update medication list
Request/Gather all necessary data for each patient medical record (i.e. hospital/referring physician office/radiology and or lab records)
Maintain a clean/organized work area including front office/triage area/examination/treatment rooms
Prepare treatment rooms before each examination
Properly drape patients if necessary
Sterilize instruments and maintain all medical equipment
Assist the physician with procedures and treatments
Review physician orders/monitor prescriptions/request authorizations
Stock office/medical supplies and request supply orders timely based on inventory needs
Must be a team player, passionate about patient care, self-motivated with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Communicate efficiently with patients, physicians and other healthcare staff
Other duties as directed by the physician and/or office manager
Obtain insurance authorizations for all required exams and document approvals.
Obtain information on the patient's eligibility status with the insurance company to ensure proper coverage and payment for services.
Obtain patients' hospitalization information and enter necessary data into computer system.
Required Experience/Job Requirements:
3 years and above of medical specialty practice experience in BOTH front and back office duties
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Must be a Certified Medical Assistant
CPR Certified
Bilingual (English and Spanish)
Previous Hematology and Oncology experience strongly preferred.
Strong Computer Knowledge (i.e. EMR, Word, Excel)
Salary dependent on experience
