    Medical Authorization Specialist Summary A Medical Authorization Specialist is responsible for obtaining pre-authorization from insurance companies for various medical treatments and procedures. The Authorization Specialist must ensure that authorization requests are handled in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner. The Medical Authorization Specialist must also maintain a working knowledge of medical insurance guidelines. This position is expected to be familiar with HIPAA. The specialist reviews medical records and documents to ensure all necessary information is submitted to the insurance provider. Additionally, they may provide customer service to patients and family members, assisting with any questions or concerns they may have. Cross-training within other departments may be required. Responsibilities: • Verifying patient eligibility for medical services • Processing medical authorizations according to guidelines • Preparing and submitting medical authorization forms • Communicating with providers and other medical staff • Maintaining accurate records and documentation of authorizations • Present self and the clinic in a professional, clean manner, business casual dress or scrubs are required • Ensure HIPAA compliance with all conversations to always ensure patient confidentiality • Respect and maintain the privacy and dignity of the patient(s) • Verify and explain to patients their insurance eligibility and copay requirements • Educate patients on office procedures and policies • Collect payments and copays • Ensure clinic and waiting area are tidy and water plants on a regular schedule Qualifications: • Office experience of 1 year • Proficiency with office equipment (fax machines, copiers, printers, scanners) • Proficiency with basic computer applications (Microsoft Office, Google Suites) • Professional attitude and appearance • Ability to be resourceful and proactive when issues arise • Excellent organizational skills • Multitasking and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks • Excellent customer service skills • Team-oriented mindset • Must be punctual and reliable Compensation: $17 - $19 hourly
