Job Overview: The Medical Biller Associate will be responsible for managing insurance claims, entering data into the billing systems daily, research and resubmit claim denials, post payments and assist with increasing revenue for our mental health practice. This role requires a high level of attention to detail, strong knowledge of mental health billing codes (such as CPT and ICD-10 codes specific to therapy and psychiatric services), and a solid understanding of insurance and billing policies, especially for mental health services. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred Responsibilities: Job Expectations: • Work with our current billers to support our growing billing dept • Grow into the position and manage a small team of billing support staff • Process claims accurately and ensure they meet insurance guidelines in a timely manner. • Communicate effectively with patients, therapists, insurance representatives, and other team members. • Stay up-to-date with changing insurance policies, especially those related to mental health and telehealth services. • Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and other relevant laws. • Review medical records to accurately to verify DOS, CPT and ICD-10 code • Resolve medical billing and coding discrepancies • Stay current with changes to medical billing and coding regulations • Utilize medical billing and coding systems to efficiently manage claims and billing processes Key Duties and Responsibilities: • Billing and Claims Processing • Prepare and submit electronic and paper insurance claims for therapy sessions and psychiatric services. • Verify accuracy of billing codes, including CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes related to mental health. • Track claims through the billing process and resolve issues that arise. • Insurance Verification and Authorization • Verify patient insurance benefits and eligibility • Obtain pre-authorizations and re-authorizations • Communicate wit clients regarding coverage limits or any issues with claim approvals. • Patient Accounts Management • Assist with review and follow up on unpaid claims; identify and appeal denied claims. • Prepare and send patient statements, including follow-up for overdue payments. • Set up payment plans with patients when necessary and assist with financial questions. • Compliance and Documentation • Maintain billing records according to company policy and HIPAA requirements. • Participate in audits, identify billing errors, and implement solutions to prevent future discrepancies. • Excellent customer Service and communication with clients • Respond to inquiries from patients and providers regarding billing issues. • Communicate with insurance companies to clarify and resolve billing issues. Qualifications: Required Qualifications: • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; certification in medical billing/coding preferred but not required. • Experience: Minimum of two years of medical billing experience, preferably within a mental health or similar healthcare setting. • Skills: Proficiency in medical billing software, EMR systems, and strong understanding of HIPAA and mental health billing regulations. Strong organizational, communication, and analytical skills. • Working well with a team.
