    Job Overview: AIMS Locum Tenens is seeking a qualified Medical Laboratory Technician to provide comprehensive laboratory and blood donor services at the 88th Medical Group, Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio. The Medical Laboratory Technician will be responsible for a variety of tasks including donor screening, phlebotomy, blood component processing, and maintaining compliance with all applicable regulations and standards. This role requires attention to detail, strong technical skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

    General Duties:

    Clinical Privileges: Provide services within the scope of clinical privileges granted by the Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) Director.

    Contractual Obligations: Perform tasks as per the basic contract and outlined duties.

    Specific Duties:

    Donor Interaction: Set up and break down mobile drive equipment, assist donors with demographic information, and obtain donor history. Assess donor eligibility by reviewing donor cards, conducting interviews, and performing phlebotomy.

    Phlebotomy: Perform phlebotomy using standard blood bag kits, collect pilot tubes for testing, and process whole blood bags.

    Blood Component Processing: Perform component processing including centrifugation, separation, weighing, and lot release paperwork. Handle the labeling of blood components and perform scheduled maintenance on equipment.

    Quality Control: Conduct daily quality control on equipment and reagents. Ensure compliance with military, AABB, CAP, CLIP, FDA, and JCAHO regulations.

    Emergency Response: Recognize and respond to adverse donor reactions and other emergencies according to established procedures.

    Inventory Management: Maintain and inventory supplies, prepare for mobile blood drives, and ship blood products to processing facilities.

    Regulatory Compliance: Adhere to all applicable regulations and standards for blood collection, processing, and donor care.

    Administrative Duties: Input donor demographics into the LIS system, manage records, and ensure all documentation is complete and accurate.

    Additional Responsibilities: Perform any other duties related to the donor center as directed by management.

    Qualifications:

    Degree/Education: Graduate from a medical laboratory technician training program accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS), the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES), or an educational program acceptable to the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT).

    Certifications: Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Medical Technologists (AMT), or another national certifying agency deemed comparable. Must have and maintain current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).

    Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician.

    Licensure/Registration: None required.

    Skills and Abilities:

    Proficient in performing phlebotomy and handling blood products.

    Strong knowledge of laboratory equipment and procedures.

    Ability to comply with stringent regulations and maintain accurate records.

    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

    Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.

    Work Schedule: Variable day schedules not exceeding 80 hours per two-week period. Duty hours cover 0600-2000 with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break. The schedule includes Sunday through Saturday with core hours of 0730-1600, including travel to mobile blood drive locations. Schedules are adjusted based on in-house and mobile blood drive requirements, with schedules provided one week in advance.

    Duty Hours: Example schedules include:

    Example #1: Week 1 and 2, Monday through Friday, 0730-1600.

    Example #2: Week 1, Monday-Saturday: 0730-1630, Week 2, Tuesday-Friday 0730-1600.

    Example #3: Week 1 and 2, Monday 0600-1430, Tuesday-Thursday 0730-1630, Friday 1130-2000.
