    Certification Requirements:

    1. ACLS

    2. BCLS

    Shift:

    84 hrs per period, 12 hr Day/Night Rotating Weekends and Holidays.

    Statement of Duties: This position is located in the Division of Nursing Service at Gallup

    Indian Medical Center. The Medical Surgical Units are located on the 2nd and third floors. The second floor unit

    consists of a 15 bed unit. The third floor has the capacity of 19 beds. Both units have telemetry patients they care

    for and manage. Clinical specialties for these units include surgery, trauma, medical, psychiatry, and many other

    sub-specialties.

    • Observes and assesses patient’s health status by physical assessment and examination, interviewing the patient

    and family members, and reviewing the patient’s health history.

    o Makes an assessment of the patient’s condition recognizing the range of normal and the manifestations of

    common abnormalities, nursing interventions needed, therapeutic measures, and other relevant information to the

    patient’s condition.

    • Administers therapeutic measures as prescribed by the physician such as medication, treatments, IV fluids, blood

    transfusions, nasogastric tubes, foleys, etc.

    • Consults with members of the multidisciplinary team for management of the patient.

    • Initiate treatment, medications, emergency and resuscitative measures based on appropriate utilization of

    standing protocols in conjunction with ACLS guidelines.

    • Makes an individualized plan of care for the patient.

    • Provides nursing care to meet the physical, emotional, spiritual, and sociocultural needs of the patient in the

    inpatient care setting.

    • Management and care of telemetry patients.

    • Functions as a primary nurse on all units of the hospital.

    • Participates in performance standards, measures, and projects for improved patient outcomes.

    • Initiates change in procedures and approaches to care as necessary for quality assurance.

    • Fosters patient motivation and compliance in adhering to required routines by counseling and assisting patient to

    understand and accept implications of care, diagnosis, and treatment.

    • Maintains professional knowledge and skill, and keeps license and certifications current.

    • Observes clinical conditions of adults

    o Interprets findings and immediately decides proper action

    o Collaborates with care team on findings

    • Administers blood components as ordered

    • Is a member of the multidisciplinary care team and provides feedback when necessary regarding discharge.
