Job Overview:
The Medical Technician will work with Technologists to assist in the preparation, examination and analysis of lab samples and specimens. Technical medical laboratory support work such as performing laboratory tests and examinations (chemical, microbiologic, hematologic and blood banking) and preparing reports of findings or technical support work in a closely related field, e.g., biological laboratory technician work, that required application of the methods and techniques for the position to be filled. Setting up and operating special medical equipment and apparatus. Performs clerical duties, incudes: type blood bank records and patient requisition data using a computer terminal, retrieval of test data, test information, and reference values via the computer and communications via electric mail. Processes specimens for analysis. Specimens include microbiological (parasitology, mycology, mycobacterium, bacteriological examinations), and biological fluids (blood, urine, sputum, bone marrow, etc.) Performs phlebotomy by venipuncture or capillary puncture by patient bedside or lab-based testing such as glucose determinations and urinalysis. Prepares and advises patients on procedures for various specimen collection. Electronically enters patient demographic data and tests requested. Serves as a control point official. Provides budget plan input on each control point to leadership. Performs other duties as necessary.
Experience Requirements:
- A Minimum of 1 year of specialized experience
- HT(s) (Histology Technicians) shall be technically proficient in the skills necessary to fulfill the government's requirements, including the ability to speak, understand, read, and write English fluently.
- Contractor personnel shall be responsible for abiding by the Facility's Medical Staff By-Laws, rules, and regulations (referenced herein) that govern medical staff behavior.
- Qualifying experience includes: (a) Technical medical laboratory support work such as performing laboratory tests and examinations (chemical, microbiologic, hematologic and blood banking) and preparing reports of findings or (b) technical support work in a closely related field, e.g., biological laboratory technician work, that required application of the methods and techniques

- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Must be able to lift/pull/push up to 35 pounds at a time

- Must be able to able to work in an environment which can include exposure to fumes, chemicals, noise, blood/body fluids
Education Requirements:
- Successful completion of an associate-degree course of study of which the 2nd year of the 2-year program included successful completion of a training course of approximately a year's duration in a certified laboratory assistant school approved by a nationally recognized accrediting agency.
- 1 year of study that included 6 semester hours in chemistry and/or the biological sciences, plus successful completion of the training course (Successful completion of (a) an associate-degree course of study of which the 2nd year of the 2-year program included successful completion of a training course of approximately a year's duration in a certified laboratory assistant school approved by a nationally recognized accrediting agency.
- 1 year of study that included 6 semester hours in chemistry and/or the biological sciences, plus successful completion of the training course as described in (a) above for Client-3; or (c) 2 years of study that included at least 12 semester hours of chemistry and/or biological science course work that must have been directly related to the specialization of the position to be filled.) or
- 2 years of study that included at least 12 semester hours of chemistry and/or biological science course work that must have been directly related to the specialization of the position to be filled
- Must have a current Medical Technologist/Clinical Laboratory Scientist license, proof of current license must be provided prior to in-processing, and at the licensure renewal date.
- All continuing education courses required for maintaining license must be kept up to date.

Training:
- All contractor HT(s) with access to any personal health information (PHI) records (electronic or paper) will be required to complete Information Security, Privacy Policy, and Rules of Behavior Training prior to their first scheduled day.
- This training must also be completed annually
Schedule:
- HT hours will be Monday through Friday, 6AM-2:30PM PST
- Business Hours: Laboratory operates 24 hours/day, 7 days/week; including Federal Holidays.
