    Job Description

    This position will support the US Department of Veterans Affairs Critical Staffing Program. The person in this position will represent International SOS and provide services outlined below: International SOS is looking for an individual who is experienced as a phlebotomist to collect blood, instruct patients and prepare samples for testing

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Perform blood collection requiring knowledge of clinical science to understand the multiplicity of tests and specimen requirements, the mechanics of venipuncture and patient preparation.
    • Positively identifies patients prior to sample collection and samples prior to testing or aliquoting. • Perform phlebotomy to obtain patient specimens for laboratory testing including blood cultures and compatibility samples.
    • Collect specimen in multiple areas including inpatients, outpatients, and emergency room.
    • Draw labs appropriately based on urgency categorizations (STAT, ASAP, Timed, Routine).
    • Accession and receive samples into VA laboratory information system package for in house testing or send outs to reference laboratories.
    • Transport specimens to the laboratory including those requiring special handlings.
    • Safeguards electronic and paper patient information.
    • Answer the phone and direct calls toother laboratory sections.
    • Establish and maintain effective interpersonal skills and good customer relations with patients, families, and all other medical center employees.
    • Provide general clerical and administrative support for the area.
    • Stock and maintain specialized supplies used in the drawing area.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Minimum three (3) years phlebotomy experience.
    • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification. Physical Requirements:
    • Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time.
    • May require bending, stooping and lifting to 25 lbs.

    Other Special Qualifications:

    • Must be a U.S. citizen.
    • Must be able to relocate to project site for the duration of the contract.
    • Proficient in written and spoken English.
    • Pass/possess VA Public Trust Clearance

    Compensation | Min:$20 Max: $ 32

    Pay range is based on several factors and may vary in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. Final salary and offer will be determined by the applicant’s background, experience, skills, internal equity, and alignment with geographical market data.
