    Job Overview:

    The Medical Technician in Sterile Processing will be responsible for providing services necessary to perform onsite decontamination, inspection, assembly, high-level disinfection, sterilization, and distribution of medical instruments and equipment. This role supports various surgical specialties including Operating Rooms (OR), Clinics (Specialty, Podiatry, Ophthalmology, Dental, ENT), and other departments. The standard of care will meet or exceed national standards set by various healthcare organizations such as the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA), FDA, CDC, and Joint Commission. The incumbent will ensure instruments are properly sterilized, assembled, and prepared for use in surgical procedures. And perform other duties as assigned.

    Experience Requirements:

    • A minimum of 1 year of experience in sterile processing or related fields in a healthcare setting
    • Ability to work independently in a sterile processing environment
    • Proven experience handling complex instrument sets and surgical tools across multiple specialties
    • Hands-on experience with sterilizing equipment, including Steam Sterilizers, Hydrogen Peroxide Gas Plasma, and other sterilization technologies
    • Experience with operating complex surgical instruments and maintaining a sterile environment to meet healthcare standards
    • Experience in receiving contaminated instruments from various departments (OR, clinics, etc.), assessing for damage, and ensuring instruments are in good working condition
    • Skilled in performing decontamination and cleaning processes in compliance with Instructions for Use (IFU) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
    • Proficient in assembling instrument trays for surgeries and clinics, ensuring correct arrangement and functionality of all items per procedure requirements
    • Experience in disassembling, troubleshooting, and inspecting complex surgical equipment prior to sterilization
    • Proficient in operating sterilizers and disinfecting units, ensuring proper sterilization methods are applied and monitoring quality control measures throughout the process
    • Skilled in performing bacteriological testing (e.g., using bacillus stearothermophilus spores for evaluating steam sterilization) to confirm successful sterilization
    • Experience in post-sterilization inspections, ensuring sterilization integrity through assessments like checking chemical indicators, seals on pouches, and ensuring items are dry and properly packaged
    • Knowledge of inventory management: Stocking and rotating sterile supplies based on first-in, first-out (FIFO) inventory methods
    • Effective communication with clinical staff, ensuring timely updates on available instruments, equipment status, and necessary substitutions or adjustments
    • Experience advising medical personnel on proper use, maintenance, and troubleshooting of surgical instruments, ensuring safe and effective equipment utilization during procedures

    Experience Preferences:

    • 3+ years of experience in sterile processing or surgical instrument handling
    • Familiarity with sterilization standards and protocols for various surgical specialties (orthopedic, ENT, ophthalmology, etc.)
    • Experience in a healthcare system

    Physical Requirements:

    • Ability to lift and carry heavy sterilized equipment
    • Must be able to stand, bend, and move around for extended periods
    • Ability to work in a hospital environment with exposure to chemicals and sterilization agents

    Education Requirements:

    • High School Diploma or equivalent
    • Basic knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and microbiology

    Education Preferences:

    • Certification in Sterile Processing (e.g., CBSPD, IAHCSMM)
    • Additional coursework or training in healthcare, microbiology, or sterilization technology

    Training Schedule:

    • TBD - Ongoing training available for new technologies and techniques

    Schedule:

    • Full-Time: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM (shifts may vary per the needs of the surgical department)
    • Will provide a twenty-four (24) hour notice of any schedule changes
