Qualified candidates with no direct related experience will have to have taken and completed a formal machining curriculum where they learn about the newest technology and/or have experience with setups and operating CNC mills, lathes and other machine shop equipment. Able to work with engineering drawings to set & adjust speeds, feed & depth of cut to hold close tolerances. Must work independently, produce quality parts and be able to inspect own work. Lead and train other machinists as required by supervisor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES " Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements. " Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining. " Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, saws, etc. " Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media. " Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required. " Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications. " Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data. " Installs machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment, and tests operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance. " Maintains and cleans machining equipment. " Creates tooling and holding fixtures as required to fabricate parts. " May be assigned to assist other departments.
EDUCATION High school diploma or general education degree (GED), applicants that don't have actual years of experience must have graduated from a formal machining curriculum where they would've learned about the newest technology and/or have some years of related experience. Must know shop math (Trigonometry). Must have training in conventional machining & Precision machine parts. Requires experience with inspection techniques and shop safety.
