Job Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate and energetic Memory Care Activities Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in enhancing the quality of life for residents living with dementia and other memory-related conditions. You will implement and facilitate engaging activities that promote cognitive function, social interaction, and emotional well-being, all while providing a safe and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the planning, organization, and execution of daily activities and programs tailored to the cognitive and physical abilities of residents.
- Foster a positive and engaging atmosphere by encouraging residents to participate in activities.
- Collaborate with the Memory Care team to create individualized activity plans based on each resident’s interests, preferences, and abilities.
- Lead group activities such as arts and crafts, music therapy, games, exercise sessions, and reminiscence therapy.
- Provide one-on-one engagement and support for residents who may require additional assistance or motivation to participate.
- Monitor and document residents’ participation and responses to activities to tailor future programs and ensure effective engagement.
- Create a safe and supportive environment by ensuring that all activity spaces are clean, organized, and equipped with necessary supplies.
- Develop strong relationships with residents and their families to understand their needs and encourage family involvement in activities.
- Communicate effectively with the Memory Care team and participate in regular staff meetings to share insights and recommendations for resident engagement.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate or bachelor’s degree in social work, recreational therapy, gerontology, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience working with seniors, especially those with memory loss or cognitive impairments, is highly desirable.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to connect with residents and their families.
- Creative and enthusiastic, with a passion for improving the lives of individuals with memory-related challenges.
- Basic computer skills for documentation and communication purposes.
- CPR and First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain upon hire.
- Ability to lift and assist residents as needed, and perform physical activities associated with engagements.
