THE PLACE
The Harbor, Portland Rescue Mission’s men’s facility, located in NE Portland, is designed to support the restoration and growth of men impacted by homelessness, addiction, and life crises. This facility integrates addiction recovery, life-skills training, vocational development and spiritual growth in a safe, highly-relational environment. The ministry team of staff, interns, and volunteers serves to model Christ-like living to support the up to 36 participants in achieving lasting transformation.
THE POSITION
The Men’s Referral and Intake Specialist contributes to Portland Rescue Mission’s ministry outcomes by leveraging strategic relationships in the community that lead to the invitation of well-fitted men into the life transforming programs at The Harbor. This position will also oversee the intake process as they support men entering the program.
THE ESSENTIALS
- Ensure The Harbor remains at capacity with well-fitted program participants by maintaining connection with agencies, local churches, and other strategic referral sources as well as directly recruiting from the Burnside Shelter ministry through regular presence and communication
- Work alongside the Director of Men's Ministry in providing tours, visiting potential referral partners and attending networking opportunities so that new relationships in the community are being established and The Harbor is well known in the greater Portland area
- Operate intake processes according to New Life program standards, quickly respond to inquiries, appropriately discern each program applicant, orient and engage well-fitted applicants while referring non-matching candidates to outside resources
- Maintain a prayerful posture, caring for applicants spiritually, sharing the gospel as appropriate
- Ensure proper documentation for each program participant regarding the application, orientation and progress of each participant through the use of the Resident Tracker Database
- Welcome new program participants, quickly engaging them in the Harbor community through hospitality, clear orientation and appropriate connection to other staff, volunteers and program participants
- Participate with staff team by stepping into key ministry opportunities as needed
BACKGROUND AND QUALIFICATIONS
- A passionate relationship with Jesus Christ and a testimony of continued growth in faith
- General awareness and basic knowledge of chemical dependency, addiction recovery and Christian discipleship
- A calling to serve men impacted by homelessness and addiction and a basic understanding of their core needs and solutions and Christian discipleship
- Agreement with Portland Rescue Mission’s Statement of Faith and Code of Ethics
- A personal ethos and work ethic that reflects Portland Rescue Mission’s ministry culture – Highly Relational, Christ-Centered, Joyful Servant
- High attention to detail even while busy or handling multiple tasks at once
- Strong customer service, communication, interpersonal, and networking abilities
- Proficient in documentation, organization, scheduling and activity planning
- Ability to lift at least 50 lbs. unassisted
