  • Responsibilities

    As a Mental Health Specialist in our school-based clinic, you will:

    Provide diagnoses, therapy and preventive mental health services to children and families.

    Collaborate with MCHC associates, schools and community groups regarding mental health issues, programs, and services.

    Work in an integrated manner with patients, families, providers and staff to promote timely access to needed care, providing continuity of care.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    Provides assessments and diagnosis of mental health concerns using DSM-V-TR criteria.

    Develops treatment plan in conjunction with child and family.

    Provides individual therapy using evidence-based therapies and practices to treat mental health diagnoses.

    Evaluates needs of child /family and refers as needed. Coordinates services.

    Provides parenting skills and psychoeducation.

    Monitors treatment.

    Maintains documentation.

    Works cooperatively with child’s treatment team.

    Provides crisis management when appropriate to primary care children.

    Supervise Limited License Social Worker or Professional Counselor.

    OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

    May provide clinical supervision to Mental Health Specialists or a university student enrolled in a curriculum leading to a graduate degree in counseling, psychology, or social work.

    Participates in Department Staff meetings, case discussions and on other Committees or work groups, as assigned.

    Participates in Quality Improvement projects.

    Other job-related duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

    Requires knowledge of personality and developmental theories, psychological assessment procedures and therapeutic techniques acquired through the completion of a master’s degree in Counseling, Psychology or Social Work from an accredited college/university.

    Knowledge of clinical mental health assessment utilizing DSM-V criteria for mental health disorders required.

    Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) Certification preferred.

    Current Michigan license as a Licensed Professional Counselor, Master's Ltd. Psychologist or Licensed Master’s Social Worker required.

    Prefer two years post-master’s work experience in a clinical setting to gain exposure to a wide variety of children’s disorders and experience working with clients who may be living in an at-risk environment.

    Must have a high degree of communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with children, adolescents, parents, neighborhood groups, school staff, community agency personnel, administration, associates, clients, and visitors.

    Basic computer skills required in: Microsoft Outlook, Access, Remote Desktop and Adobe Acrobat.

    Intermediate computer skills required in: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and EHR/EMR/EPM.

    Working knowledge of eClinicalWorks preferred.
