    ABOUT US:

    Mercy Street of Dallas, Texas is a unique organization. Our programs are designed to expand on the school day by offering dynamic academic, social and recreational enrichment activities to students of all ages. Our programs promote and enhance the development of young people by instilling a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging, influence, and to become Christ Centered.

    PRIMARY FUNCTION:

    Mentor & Leadership Coordinators are the central hub in the mentoring process at Mercy Street. They are responsible for nurturing mentors, students, and the student's family. Mentor Coordinators provide on-going training for mentors, plan and implement events geared to support the mentoring relationship. They also lead programs that build mentoring relationships with small groups of students in-school and after-school. Coordinators conduct the leadership component for our students, which consists of the Leadership Institute, Street Team (weekly Bible Study), and Alumni Association. The aim is to equip children and youth with sound leadership training, experience, and exposure.

    KEY ROLES (ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES):

    BELIEVER OF THE GOSPEL 

    The Mentoring and Leadership Coordinator is a believer of the Gospel. This position furthers Mercy Street's religious mission by: 

    • Following Jesus Christ and setting an example for others through their lifestyle. 
    • Exhibiting a passion for sharing the Gospel with others. 
    • Being willing and able to explain the message of the Gospel to kids and families of Mercy Street. Being willing and able to counsel, shepherd, and disciple kids and families of Mercy Street in a manner consistent with the Bible. 
    • Being willing and able to explain Mercy Street's beliefs and Statement of Faith in person or over the phone to kids and families of Mercy Street.
    • Being ready, willing, and able to lead or contribute to distinctly Christian activities (including, but not limited to, worship or staff chapel).

     

    LEADERSHIP PROGRAMS 

    • Create desired outcomes and establish metrics to determine if students are moving towards leadership fruit.
    • Help to lead and/or execute weekly after school on-site Bible Study events with program participants, primarily youth in elementary, middle, and high school.
    • The M&L Program Coordinator is responsible for implementing the Mercy Streets' Summer Leadership Institute in both South and West Dallas. 
    • Collaborate with the Director of M&L to develop and enhance leadership content.
    • Serve as the lead for the 8-week Summer Institute, which is designed to build student leaders' aptitude in theology, life skill, college/career readiness, financial literacy, and business. 
    • Assist in the planning and execution of the paid summer internship program (geared around the 8-week institute) for qualified and selected Street team members and college students with demonstrated interested in inner-city ministry.  
    • Identify and engage Mercy Street alumni. Assess their current needs and create spaces where they can serve based on their abilities.
    • Disciple alumni who have a deep interest in staying connected to Mercy Street and the communities we serve.

     

    SHEPHERD MENTORING RELATIONSHIPS

    • Make regular contact with existing mentors via phone, email or other methods.
    • Make regular face-to-face contact with Mentors to ensure the health of the relationship, child safety, and recruitment of new mentors.
    • Visit partner schools in scheduled cadence to contact and build relationships with your assigned mentees. Work with partner school administration and counseling office to identify new mentees.
    • Have a face-to-face meeting with mentees in West or South Dallas and Vickery Meadow regularly for relational & safety check-in.
    • Communicate about events to mentees/parents.
    • Reach out to families to update contact information and keep all family contact information up-to-date.
    • Make regular contacts (answered phone call, text or email) with Parents/Guardians of Mentoring program participants
    • Terminate matches that are unhealthy, non-functioning, or do not meet the minimum requirements of a mentoring relationship, with Director's approval.
    • Seeks out opportunities with appropriate school/church matches.
    • Be available to assist with various programmatic events.

    RECRUITMENT OF NEW MENTORS/VOLUNTEERS

    • Attends church or organization meetings to recruit new potential mentors.
    • Be present for promotional/recruitment events as needed.
    • Communicates and collaborates with volunteer leaders.
    • Assists with recruiting new volunteer leaders by attending meetings with prospective church leaders with the Director and/or Manager of Strategic Partnerships as needed.

    ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES & DATABASE MANAGEMENT

    • Document significant interactions with mentees and families as soon as possible.
    • Return phone calls and emails in a timely professional manner.
    • Update Google work calendar as needed to accurately reflect your interactions and activity with all applicable job-related meetings, functions, and commitments.
    • Keep mentor/mentee Salesforce Mentor Database accounts updated with school, grade, address, place of employment, contact information, etc.
    • Report any signs of child abuse to the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.

    INCARNATIONAL PRESENCE 

    • Interact with the neighborhood regularly. 
    • Sharpening awareness of obstacles facing parents and students. 
    • Meets and encourages community partners on an as needed basis.

     

    OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED

    • Attend weekly prayer and staff meetings, annual retreats, and other “all hands-on deck” events.
    • Attend, assist in execution and support other ministry events such as  Sports, Community Events, Annual Fundraiser, as needed.
    • Serve on appropriate committees; attend staff meetings, and other staff functions. 
    • Strengthen teamwork, collaboration, alignment, morale, transparency, credibility, and trust throughout the ministry. 
    • Fulfill necessary tasks, projects or roles as assigned.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIRED:

    • Exhibit initiative, integrity, and sound judgment
    • 3-5 years of relevant nonprofit program experience
    • Bachelor's degree with five years of experience or master's degree with three years' experience in Social Work, Business, Public Administration or related degree.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Strong computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Word and databases
    • TX Driver's License and clean driving record
    • Bilingual in Spanish and English a plus
    • Experience in working with underserved populations is a plus
