    Job Description

    The Metallurgical (Met) Technician reports to the Senior Metallurgist. This hands-on position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of lab equipment, instruments, testing, and systems. The Met Technician will perform a wide variety of job functions in multiple areas within the Met lab and process plant and offsite laboratory.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Performs all duties with a focus on safety, environmental stewardship, and best operating practices.
    • Actively participates in Safety, Health, and Environmental initiatives.
    • Seeks to continuously improve work environment.
    • Conducts laboratory test campaigns through the use of lab equipment, instruments, and systems according to standard operating procedures and/or directed work instructions from the supervisor.
    • Assists in the optimization of the Process plant through participating in sampling campaigns and other process related needs.
    • Must acquire competency in operating lab and mobile equipment and instrumentation in the lab and plant environment.
    • Must be able to assess, diagnose and remedy operating variances in a safe and timely manner.
    • Performs routine maintenance and participates in equipment and instrument repairs as necessary.
    • Responsible for safe and effective handling of hazardous chemicals and solutions.
    • Reads meters and gauges, automatic recording devices or performs visual inspections at specified intervals to verify proper operating conditions.
    • Assists in sample collection in all areas around the Haile operation.
    • Analyzes data and writes test summaries as required.
    • Assist in correction of standard operating procedures.
    • Visually inspects equipment at periodic intervals to detect malfunctions or need for repair, adjustment or lubrication and reports data to appropriate personnel.
    • Other responsibilities as necessary for the successful operation of the Haile Process Plant.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Knowledge :

    1. Working knowledge of computers is required. 1. Knowledge of Microsoft Office software is required. 2. Knowledge of lab procedures, equipment and instrumentation is beneficial. 3. Knowledge of industrial treatment processes is beneficial. 4. Knowledge of chemistry or other sciences is beneficial.
    • Education:
    1. High school diploma / equivalent. Higher education beneficial.
    • Experience:
    1. Experience with mine sample preparation, wet chemistry methods and instrumentation is beneficial.
    2. Experience with metallurgical testing equipment is beneficial.
    3. Prior experience in a lab environmental is beneficial.
    4. Prior experience in an industrial environment is beneficial.

    Physical Requirements:

    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs, talk, hear and see.
    • Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) during the workday.
    • Work is in a surface mine plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity.
    • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine environment, including hart hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required.
