  • Responsibilities

    Purpose: To advance the mission of Hill Country Christian School by assisting the Middle School Principal in the administration of student programs and expectations.

    Accountability: Reports to the Middle School Principal

    FLSA Status: Exempt, full-time

    Qualifications:

    · Must be a Christ-follower who upholds, in word and deed, the Hill Country Christian School of Austin’s Core Values and Statement of Faith.

    · Must faithfully attend a church whose fundamental beliefs are in agreement with the Statement of Faith of this school.

    · A master’s degree is required (current program can be pending completion).

    · A bachelor’s degree in the field of education, or a graduate degree in the field of education, is preferred.

    · A minimum of five years of professional experience working with secondary students in a Christian school or church setting is required.

    · Administration experience in a Christian school is preferred.

    · Must understand and be able to articulate how to effectively integrate the Christian Faith into the culture of this school, especially as it relates to student discipline and growth.

    · Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

    · Must demonstrate initiative and organization in building programs, solving problems, and managing multiple projects and tasks.

    ** General Responsibilities:**

    With regard to student programs and activities:

    · Lead, develop, and implement programs, initiatives, and activities that foster a positive student culture aligned with the mission, vision, purpose, and core values of the school.

    · Assign faculty and staff duties to ensure students are properly supervised and supported during non-instructional time.

    · Develop and direct effective student discipleship and mentorship programs, including the small-group advisory program.

    · Develop a comprehensive plan of service that involves students in all middle school grades.

    · Lead, coordinate, and facilitate the Middle School House program and/or other formal leadership opportunities for middle school students.

    · Lead, coordinate, and attend the 6th and 7th-grade middle school retreats in collaboration with the Middle School Principal.

    · Collaborate with the Middle School Principal to coordinate and attend the eighth-grade Washington, D.C. trip.

    · Serve as the administrative point person for planning and coordinating Hill Country Go Week for middle school students.

    · Help plan and facilitate parent education programs for middle school families.

    · Maintain a highly visible presence on campus, particularly during passing periods, lunches, chapels, study halls, and student assemblies.

    · Volunteer to serve as the administrator on duty for athletic events from time to time.

    · Other duties related to student programs and activities as assigned.

    With regard to student expectations and policies:

    · Lead the administration of student discipline in accordance with the handbook and in support of the mission, vision, purpose, and core values of the school.

    · Promote, uphold, and enforce expectations for student conduct and appearance as stated in the handbook, intervening and assigning consequences as necessary.

    · Collaborate with the Middle School Principal and other staff to review, update, and enforce handbook policies.

    · Assist the Middle School Principal in reviewing teachers’ classroom management plans and practices, offering classroom support when needed.

    · Work closely with the Middle School Principal to enforce the bullying policy, adjudicating any alleged middle school bullying issues and communicating with parents throughout the process.

    · Assign and maintain a record of student lockers, ensuring appropriate use and regular maintenance of lockers.

    · Assist in implementing and upholding student and campus safety drills, policies, and procedures.

    · Collaborate with the Middle School Administrative Assistant and the Registrar to track tardies and absences for middle school students, contacting parents and assigning consequences as needed.

    · Generate student tardy and attendance reports through the school’s student information system.

    · Ensure middle school students use school-issued devices appropriately.

    · Receive and evaluate electronic data from students’ school devices, flagging and vetting questionable content, and assigning consequences as needed.

    · Serve on the school’s threat assessment team and any other safety-related groups as needed.

    · Other duties related to student expectations and policies as assigned.

    Physical Requirements:

    · Must be able to move about inside and outside of campus buildings.

    · Must work in a stationary position using fine motor skills.

    · Frequently communicate with co-workers, students, parents, and others. Must be able to exchange accurate and professional information in person, via email, or by telephone.

    · Possess the physical stamina required to fulfill the professional obligations of the teaching profession and their specific faculty assignment.

    · Able to lift 5 to 30 pounds occasionally.

    · Possible exposure to a variety of childhood and adult diseases and illnesses.
