    Maumee Valley Country Day School is seeking a student-centered, creative individual who orchestrates learning for students in ways that are engaging, challenging, and relevant. The successful candidate is a resourceful and innovative teacher who uses a range of pedagogical techniques in order to reach all learners.

    This position reports to the Head of Upper School and collaborates closely with faculty across multiple divisions, including the arts department and co-curricular programs.     Key Responsibilities and Duties:

    Experiential music educator who can use longer blocks of instructional time with diverse teaching methods

    Plan and lead experiential learning opportunities such as workshops, field trips, and collaborative projects

    Collaborate across disciplines to integrate music with other areas of study and support interdisciplinary projects

    Provide opportunities for students to explore music technology, composition, and contemporary styles alongside traditional instrumental training

    Maintain and manage music equipment, instruments, and performance spaces

    Develop and implement a comprehensive instrumental music curriculum that emphasizes both technical proficiency and artistic creativity

    Meet performance goals established as part of the annual performance planning process or as the result of organizational planning

    Actively engage in personal and professional work in support of the school’s diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives

    Works independently with minimum supervision

    Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor

    Skills and Competencies:

    Instrumental and vocal expertise

    Experience directing a musical pit orchestra

    Ability to develop engaging general music curriculum for students in 7th-12th grade

    Proven experience teaching instrumental and vocal music at the secondary and middle school level

    Strong knowledge of instrumental techniques, music theory, and a variety of musical genres and styles

    Commitment to experiential, student-centered learning and the ability to adapt instruction to meet diverse needs

    Ability to inspire and motivate students with patience, enthusiasm, and creativity.

    Proficiency with music technology and digital tools is a plus

    Credentials:

    Bachelor's degree in music education, music performance, or a related field (master’s degree preferred)

    Valid state teaching certification in music education or ability to secure an Ohio Permanent Non-Tax certificate or Professional Teaching License within the first six months of employment

    Faculty: You must be willing and able to secure an Ohio Permanent Non-Tax certificate or Professional Teaching license. Maumee Valley will support you in obtaining this once you are hired. For compliance purposes, it must be secured within the first six months of employment.
