Workforce is accepting applications to fill the position of Welder in the department of Welding and Fabrication in Richmond, Virginia.
Pay rate:
$19.00-$22.00/hr
Position Summary:
The Welder, under moderate to minimal supervision (depending upon experience), lays out, fits, and welds fabricated steel frames and/or metal parts on the production floor using welding equipment. Measures and marks locations for metal components on the assembly table following blueprints. Verifies the position of metal components in assembly using a straight edge, combination square, and rule
Essential Functions of the Job:
- Adjusts and uses torch and plasma cutter and/or grinder properly in standard/non-standard positions following engineering drawings.
- Welds in vertical, flat, horizontal, or overhead positions.
- Uses basic hand tools, such as tape measure, square, clamps, etc., to verify proper weld application and quality of weldments.
- Examines work pieces for defects and ensures conformance with specifications.
- Welds out components previously tack welded by experienced welders.
- Prep and finishes metal components by grinding or sanding.
- Operates material handling equipment. Operates overhead crane/hoist.
- Responsible for movement of material or product and proper storage.
- Must be physically able to wear required appropriate personal protective equipment, including welding helmet, gloves, protective apron and/or leather attire, hearing protection, safety glasses, steel toe shoes, and fresh air/forced air respirator as required.
- Performs MIG welding and some TIG welding.
- All other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA’s):
- Experience in MIG and TIG welding
- Ability to read and understand English
- Capable of performing standard measurements. Ability to read a tape measure in American measurements; ability to use other measuring devices
- Ability to read drawings and sketches
- Ability to adhere to company safety expectations and wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work alone and as part of a team
- Good math skills
- Mechanical aptitude
- Understands the basic procedure of voltage and amp settings for given requirement
