All Minerva classes are seminars, not lecture courses, and use active learning to help students learn to think critically and creatively as well as to communicate and interact effectively with others. The majority of our students are undergraduates pursuing four-year degrees. Minerva offers a Master of Science in Decision Analysis, as well as other programming for professional learners, which we are actively looking to scale over the upcoming few years.

About Coaching & Talent Development and the Role

The Coaching & Talent Development (CTD) team supports Minerva's mission by empowering Minerva students to create and pursue meaningful lives and careers by exploring, identifying, testing, and developing the skills and characteristics that will support them to thrive personally and professionally. Our programs and services encourage students to develop mindsets & behaviors that enable success in the short and long term; understand and articulate their values, interests, and strengths; identify market realities and needs in the world and engage authentically with others to further their professional development in a global, ever-changing context.

We are looking to hire a student-centered, results-driven, early career professional to join our team, either full-time or part-time, to design and implement career exploration programming to help students build skills to identify and test potential career paths. You'll begin working with first-year students, laying a foundation that will help them launch into internships, research opportunities and fellowships, and equipping them with frameworks to make intentional decisions about their lives. In this role, you will guide students through the appropriate mix of 1:1 coaching and group workshops, leveraging your skills in coaching, rapport-building, workshop design and facilitation.

You will have the opportunity to shape a new approach to how universities prepare students for the Future of Work, while engaging with an intellectually diverse, mission-driven group of students that come to Minerva from around the world (our undergraduate population has included students from over 100 countries).

During their four years at Minerva, students live and study in seven cities around the world. In their first year, students are assigned to a Coach who will support them to navigate this experience across their four years and beyond, as alumni. As a Coach, you will work with a portfolio of first-year students, allowing you to develop and maintain relationships with students over time, helping them work through transitions and draw connections as they engage in diverse academic and professional experiences around the world.

Given Minerva's geographically distributed model, this means you will work on a small team of remote Coaches and Professional Success experts with students across multiple time zones.

Location, Special Conditions, and Travel: We are hiring for a Coach based in the San Francisco Bay Area region. This role will require occasional evening and weekend work, and may require some international travel, likely 1-2 trips during the academic year to the other rotation cities. These international trips serve to further build connections with our global student life staff, professional partners, and students through your participation in milestone events and in-person CTD programming.

Key Responsibilities

• Guide students in navigating their college experience and early career exploration through reflection, self-assessment, goal setting, research, and the internship/job search/graduate school admissions process
• Motivate students to get both strategic & tactical and prioritize their pursuit of professional opportunities, in ways that are aligned with their values, goals and constraints
• Provide 1:1 & group coaching to students & track their progress towards their goals
• Design and implement a variety of talent development workshops and programs
• Collaborate with Minerva's teams (e.g., Academics, Student Life) to create sessions that help students understand the connection between their academic course of study, their global rotation experiences, and their career goals

Required Qualifications

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Enthusiasm for designing and delivering career-centric workshops and programs both in-person and virtually
• An understanding of and ability to build rapport with individuals, especially young adults, from diverse cultural backgrounds
• Excellent interpersonal skills that will enable successful collaboration with a variety of stakeholders including faculty, students, employers, graduate schools and partners
• Proactive team player who thrives in an entrepreneurial environment
• Comfort using and learning new technology; tech-savvy and eager to adopt new tools to better serve student needs
• Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias

Preferred Qualifications

• At least 1 year of professional experience advising on career exploration and opportunities, or recruiting undergraduate students into highly desirable roles, specifically in the US jobs market
• Knowledge of career development theories, adult development theory, career decision making, learning styles, and job search techniques
• A strong network to continually access trends on employer recruiting strategies, job market trends, career and employment information sources as well as the application process for graduate and professional school
• Experience working with a globally diverse population

Salary range: Based on a $70,000-$80,000 annual full-time salary. We are looking for a Coach to join us either part-time (minimum 20 hours/week) or full-time.
