General Description:
Mobility Assistant reports to the Manager of Medical Surgical Units or designee. The Mobility Assistant functions under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and is responsible for lifting, transferring, moving, and ambulating assigned patients within hospital and department policies and procedures. The Mobility Assistant cares for patients from admission to discharge. This position contributes to exceptional patient experiences by fostering collaboration and service excellence within assigned functional area(s). The position shall exemplify the desired Culture of Choice® and philosophies of Parrish Healthcare.
Key Responsibilities:
Ambulates patients in a safe, courteous, and respectful manner and transfers from bed to chair and vice versa with consideration of the age-specific needs of the geriatric adult and adolescent patient.
Appropriately uses lift equipment/aids for safe patient movement. Provide safe patient movement while assisting nursing staff with high frequency and problem prone lifts, turns and transfers.
Commode ambulation with/without assistive devise.
Assists with activities of daily living (ADLs) with a focus on mobility independence to include ambulation positioning dressing and toileting.
Notifies staff of patients’ arrival and location within department and notifies staff of their return, ensuring all safety measures are in place (i.e., bed alarm, TABS, etc.). Alerts same of any changes in patients' condition. Communicates patient needs and/or requests to technical staff.
Provides and/or reinforces patient instruction regarding safe mobility gait sequencing and weight baring status as appropriate. Demonstrates professional attitude.
Observes patients for unsafe behavior, uses healing conversations to re-direct patient with courtesy and respect.
Assists technical staff in moving of patients to and from transport equipment and procedure tables. Ensures accurate fitting of assistive device for mobility.
Performs basic patient care skills such as vital sign reading and recording under the direction of the RN.
Comply with all infection control and hazardous material measures at all times, maintaining a safe patient environment.
Participate in all Customer Service Training in-service as provided by department.
Clean and change linens on transport equipment as required.
Maintains proper working order of portable oxygen canisters and reports to supervisor any faulty equipment.
Performs similar or related duties as assigned.
Knows fire, disaster and safety procedures and regulations as it pertains to the work area
Requirements:
Formal Education:
High School Diploma/GED preferred.
Work Experience:
0 to 1 year; Ability to work and communicate effectively with patients.
Required Licenses, Certifications, Registrations:
BCLS required within first three months of employment and must maintain and keep up to date during employment.
