    Upland Capital Group, Inc. is an AM Best rated “A-” VIII specialty property/casualty insurer headquartered in Dallas, Texas. Through its wholly owned insurance carrier, Upland Specialty Insurance Company, the company markets, underwrites and services specialty insurance products in select markets to include excess transportation, construction casualty, excess casualty, primary general liability, excess public entity, professional liability errors and omissions as well as excess cyber liability.

    On our Risk, Analytics, and Data (RAD) team, we focus on Actuarial, Data Science, Data and Model Engineering, and Enterprise Risk Management functions. Our Actuarial and Data Science model environment and architecture is containerized, and we are cloud based, running on Azure. Our vision is to build highly automated and efficient processes to build, test, and deploy our models and products for enhancing actuarial, underwriting and claim insights with timely and relevant data-driven analytics and technology. We look to create models that require creative problem solving and a close collaboration with stakeholders across the organization, not limited by a ‘one size fits all’ mindset.

    **As an Excess and Surplus (E &S) carrier, we face unique and interesting problems every day. We are seeking a Model Ops Development Engineer to join our RAD team; this is a remote position. **

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Build on a fully containerized model architecture
    • Learn provisioning of applications through Infrastructure as Code
    • Work with and develop a modern CI/CD model pipeline
    • Structure workflows through a flow tool through DAGs
    • Provision data stores and APIs unique to data science models
    • Develop new forms of data applications and stores useful for data science and actuarial models
    • Manage container orchestration and model security (Ex: Snyk, Scout)
    • Other duties assigned by management

    Experience, Education, Special Skills Required:

    • A master’s degree (in Engineering, Computer Science degree or related field) with 1-3 years of experience OR a bachelor’s degree with 2-5 years of experience
    • Demonstrated ability to write and maintain production-level Python code using Git Ops practices
    • Strong CI/CD experience deploying to cloud resources using GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD or similar tool
    • Experience building and maintaining images using Docker compose and deploying containerized applications using orchestration tools such as Kubernetes
    • 1-4 years of experience as a Backend, DevOps Engineer or ML Ops Engineer with ability to work in CLI/terminal on Unix/Linux systems
    • Comfortable working with relational (SQL) and non-relational (NoSQL) databases
    • Knowledge of API security models and authentication in a distributed system
    • Working knowledge of asynchronous architectures using events, workers, and job queues Self-starter, quick learner and creative problem solver that thrives in a flexible, fast-paced, and remote work environment

    Bonus Skills:

    • Experience with GraphQL and distributed compute architectures
    • Experience with vector databases, neural networks, and fine-tuning LLMs
    • Experience working at a tech start-up or in financial services

    Disclosures:

    Pay Estimate: $100,000-$140,000/year

    Other compensation: annual incentive program
