    KIPP Multilingual Learners Teachers

    KIPP Chicago seeks English Learners Teachers (EL) who are Bilingual (Spanish) and licensed to provide English Learners with both direct instruction and additional resources and supports in the general program of instruction. This teacher will ensure that students keep pace with peers in the core academic content areas as well as develop proficiency in English in accordance with individual ACCESS goals.

    At KIPP Chicago, we have 8 campuses. Elementary Schools include grades K-4, and Middle Schools include grades 5-8. We have 4 elementary schools- KIPP Ascend Primary, KIPP Academy Chicago Primary, KIPP Bloom Primary, and KIPP One Primary. We also have 4 middle schools- KIPP Ascend Middle School, KIPP Academy Chicago, KIPP Bloom College Prep, and KIPP One Academy.     As a KIPP Chicago Multilingual Learners Teacher, your core responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    Mission Alignment

    • A belief that all students can and will be successful

    • A growth mindset about oneself and all others at the school, including a commitment to professional growth and development

    • A commitment to the mission and vision of KIPP Chicago and the pursuit of antiracism in our schools and work together

    Multilingual Instruction- Teach and Assess

    • Design learning plans for students based on ACCESS language test results, creating differentiated lesson plans designed to build bilingual students’ English skills in Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing in order to help them become more successful in their regular classroom

    • Teach regular English as a Second Language lessons with small groups of students help them develop their English proficiency skills

    • If necessary, provide bilingual instruction in support of grade-level academic content, through either co-teaching in general education classrooms, content review sessions, or a combination of both

    • Prepare students to pass the ACCESS test and exit the transitional program of instruction

    • Administer the annual ACCESS English proficiency test to students

    Care of Students and Commitment to School and Classroom Culture

    • Ensure that all students are affirmed, valued, and challenged every day

    • Use best practices in alignment with school-wide systems to manage student behavior and create a safe, warm, demanding, and joyful classroom environment

    • Establish and maintain strong lines of communication with students and their families and share progress

    • Help develop school-wide culture that best fits the needs of our students, staff, and families

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    The requirements for a Multilingual Learners Teacher are:

    • Bachelor’s degree (required)

    • Illinois teacher license with a Bilingual Education endorsement in Spanish and English as a Second Language endorsement (required) OR Transitional Bilingual Education

    • Fluency in Spanish, written and orally (required)

    • At least two years’ prior success teaching in urban communities (strongly preferred)

    • Substantial prior experience working with English Learner students (strongly preferred)

    • A cleared CPS Background check before start of employment (required)
