Mission: Cultivating environmentally sound, economically viable, community-focused farms and food systems

Position overview: Are you an experienced multimedia storyteller with a passion for travel, spending time in the field, and sourcing and telling stories about urban and rural sustainable farms? We're seeking a well-rounded communicator and “boots-on-the-ground” storyteller who will support community engagement for our Farmer Outreach and Climate-Smart Farming and Marketing work, and craft compelling content that shines a light on farms in our community and inspires action for food system change.

An ideal candidate for this position is bilingual in English and Spanish and is deeply familiar with sustainable agriculture practices, urban farming, climate issues, and food system equity.

The Multimedia Content Specialist will report to the Communications & Content Manager and be a member of the Communications team while collaborating closely with Pasa's Farmer Outreach and Climate-Smart Farming and Marketing teams.

This role is supported by a Partnerships for Climate-Smart Commodities grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, under agreement number NR233A750004G025. This is a full-time, permanent position which will conclude on March 31, 2028. The Climate-Smart Marketing and Communications Strategist is supervised by the Associate Director for Communications.

This is a primarily remote position with frequent travel to farms in the region (primarily in the Mid-Atlantic, but occasionally throughout the Northeast U.S.) and some in-person workdays. All employees are required to attend 2-3 annual in-person staff retreats and our annual Sustainable Agriculture Conference, which takes place each February in Lancaster, PA. Employees must comply with Pasa's remote employee policies.

    Responsibilities

    • Through both storyfinding and storytelling, seek out, capture, and craft compelling narratives from across the mid-Atlantic region that center and uplift our community of farmers and food system changemakers and advance equity in agriculture
    • In collaboration with the Communications team and in adherence with best practices for accessibility, lead the production of multimedia storytelling projects across a wide variety of formats including, but not limited to, video, photography, podcast episodes, blog posts/articles, and social media posts
    • Work closely with team members across Pasa's Communications & Marketing team, Climate-Smart team, and Training, Outreach & Development team to support the promotion of our farmer outreach and Climate-Smart Farming and Marketing programs
    • Ensure that marketing materials are available in needed languages (through direct translation or working with a contractor)
    • Lead the internal and external distribution of marketing collateral and materials through the maintenance and management of Pasa's print-on-demand storefront, inventory management or other delivery tools.
    • Organize, archive, and maintain Pasa's digital asset and media libraries
    • Support the development of standardized practices for other team members

    Qualifications

    • Willingness and ability to travel frequently to farms across the region (primarily in the Mid-Atlantic, but also occasionally throughout the Northeast U.S.) to capture stories
    • Demonstrated ability to tell compelling stories about farming, food systems, and environmental topics across a variety of multimedia content
    • Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills
    • Photo/video production experience
    • Blogwriting experience
    • Ability to distill and convey complex scientific or policy concepts to a broad audience
    • Passion for Pasa's mission
    • Understanding of sustainable agriculture practices
    • Understanding of journalistic ethics and best practices
    • Understanding of the legacies of colonialism and racism in agriculture and ongoing injustices in the food system
    • Vision for how storytelling can advance diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice
    • Valid U.S. driver's license

    Preferred qualification:

    • Podcast production experience
    • Photojournalism experience
    • Bilingual in English and Spanish
