    Our Security Officers provide a safe and secure environment for staff, students and visitors of The Henry Ford, the Henry Ford Academy, and the Ford Rouge Factory Tour. This includes responding to accidents and incidents as they occur as well as protecting artifacts and the grounds of The Henry Ford. You would be responsible for watching for and reporting irregularities, such as missing artifacts and fire hazards.

    Please note, this is a full-time benefit-eligible position for midnight shifts, 12am - 8am.

    Essential Responsibilities

    • Patrols museum and village or assigned areas at the Ford Rouge Factory Tour checking all interior and exterior doors and perimeter fence lines, to guard against fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry. Patrol buildings and grounds; examine doors, windows, and gates to assure that they are secure.
    • Makes sure building mechanics are operating properly – such as heat in the winter and AC in the summer, leaking pipes, safety hazards and unlocked doors and windows and activity of a suspicious nature. Occasionally provides transportation to medical facilities for staff.
    • Responds to accidents and incidents occurring on the premises quickly and promptly, provides appropriate assistance including basic First Aid/CPR/AED for staff, students, and visitors when necessary and accurately completes appropriate reports.
    • Provides assistance, gives direction and answers questions for staff, students and visitors in a hospitable manner.
    • Observes and makes recommendations to improve security, fire prevention and/or safety.
    • Will be assigned to operate security console and dispatch, monitor CCTV's and have basic knowledge of all fire and intrusion alarm panels. Basic understanding of computers, and appropriate radio communication is required. Multi – tasking is required.
    • Acts as a team player and provides expertise within the team and with other teams as appropriate. Good communications skills required to solve a variety of issues that may arise in security or other departments.
    • Assists with directing traffic and parking of visitor vehicles during special events, high visitation days or as required.
    • Checks personal bags, purses, lunch bags and packages of staff and contractors that leave the Museum as well as sporadic vehicle checks of staff and contractors as they exit the Blue Gate and Eagle Gate. Reports abandoned packages immediately.
    • Promotes the team concept within the Security Department and the mission, vision, and values of The Henry Ford.
    • Performs other activities as necessary or assigned.

    Your Qualifications

    • High school diploma or GED
    • Valid Michigan Driver's license
    • Interested or experienced in security, fire safety and/or public safety
    • Must maintain first aid, CPR/AED and blood borne pathogen certifications, if hired
    • Basic computer skills
    • Ability to work indoors and outdoors, climb stairs and ladders and respond to assignments in a quick timely manner in all weather conditions

    Special Skills

    • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

    Must be able to work indoors and outdoors constantly standing and walking in all types of weather.
